Phono preamp with mono switch? PS Audio GCPH has a mono switch and super-easy loading settings as well. Breeze to use and excellent sound. Used about $500 is correct.
Bryston 28B-SST2 or Karan Acoustics KA-S 600 ? I think the Bryston 7BSST2 monos would drive the hell out of the Thiels (600 watts into 8 ohms, 900 into 4), and the U.S. price is right at $10,000 for the pair. And you can put the savings into other fun stuff!
Upgrade advice needed I agree that integrating the W4S as a DAC only makes sense. I also agree that all copper cables may be a better fit (it was in my case). The quick review I read about your speakers are that they can handle up to 250 watts and I note the NAD puts ou...
Best integrated amp for Harbeth SHL5s Thanks Don--yeah, Luxman and Accuphase do have their acts together. I lust after the Luxman DA-06 DAC! I'm upgrading speaker cables and interconnect to Audience AU-24e and hope that will prove out.
Warm airy musical speakers? Since you're in Sweden, I suggest you check out the System Audio lineup made in Denmark. I heard several of their speakers at Wilson Audio in New Orleans and was really impressed. I heard some floorstanders that retailed for about $3500 thru the R...
Best integrated amp for Harbeth SHL5s Well, I wound up buying a Luxman 505ux and I'm pleased. More grip than the Ayre and the feature set is quite nice! My home office is in my music room so being able to use the loudness control (remember those?) at low volume adds a nice punch. Othe...
Tube Amp with Balance Controls - Does it exist? The Rogue really sounds good too!
Audience Conductor "E" or "SE" speaker cable? I'm using the Signal Cable Ultra and I compared that with the Signal Silver Resolution and I liked the less expensive Ultra in my system (Luxman AX505Ux driving Harbeth SHL5 speakers). So, my observation is that some cables will mate better with yo...

Sonus Faber Olympica II or III? I think the II would be fine. I was impressed with the I's, and if you really want the final amount of bass, then adding a REL or similar quality sub would likely be less expensive than the IIIs--although I don't think you'll find you need it.
Levinson 352H, or Bryston 4BSST, or... I have a Bryston 4BSST2 (latest version) for sale on Audigon in excellent condition. It's the recommended match for Maggies at local dealer AudioSystems. It's five years old and has 15 years left on the warranty. If you don't like it--possible--th...
"Looking Into You" A Tribute To Jackson Browne This is also available on HDtracks. And I like Bob Schneider's version! It makes Running on Empty more wistful than upbeat.
Got the upgrade bug Match the speakers to the space and your taste in music first. The CM1s are nice, but I really love Harbeths. You could start with the P3 ESR which will look too small, but they're not, and then later upgrade to the Compact 7s, which are awesome. ...
What's your latest album purchase? agree that the Doug McLeod is really good, just got Brand New Eyes. AlsoWood Brothers, Ways Not to Lose (CD)Brian Bromberg, Wood II (CD)Gregory Porter, Liquid Spirit (HDtracks)Hans Theessink and Terry Evans, Delta Time (CD)Lorde, Pure Heroine (HDt...
speaker cables for sub and speakers My preference is for REL subs which allow you to output via your amp mains to the sub so that it sees the same signal as your speakers. Seems to integrate better. |
