Rel Does Not Recomment Isolation Stands
The think the real issue is what type of floor is present in your listening room, I have a dedicated room with wool carpet over concrete and I can see no reason in this case to do anything other than drain the energy by coupling.
Rel Does Not Recomment Isolation Stands
This doesnt surprise me one bit. In just about every situation, especially involving speakers, it is a question of what is be done with the energy. At first glance it would seem to me that you should drain this energy, but some disagree.
Does Time alignment and Phase coherency make for a better loudspeaker?
Most of Thiel's speakers have demonstrated to me how a single aspect which I think is incorrect can sour the entire speaker and the listening experience. I could never get past the aggressive/forward quality of the treble. To me JT efforts to achi...
Does Time alignment and Phase coherency make for a better loudspeaker?
Past attempts at DSP were abysmal failures, but perhaps significant gains have been made in the past few years. Funny I still dont consider DSP a viable option which is probably not wise. Just dont like the idea of DSP at a fundamental level.
Does Time alignment and Phase coherency make for a better loudspeaker?
It all depends on how the designer achieves T/P coherency.  You cannot achieve T/P coherency with room treatments.
Building a custom isolation equipment rack
First thing you need to decide if you want to drain or isolate. Basically you need to deal with airborne, vibrations from the floor and vibrations emanating from the equipment itself. Springs might help with floor vibrations which are probably the...
Greatest Songwriter of all time
Dylan and Tom Waits.   I also like Andy Partridge of XTC.
Still happily using vintage gear?
The only vintage gear that I still think is viable are my Quad 63s.
Fixed (Easy!) a Major Design Flaw of the Ohm Walsh Model F
My friend set fire to the drivers in his Ohm Fs by clipping his Hafler kit amps. College days! Never been a fan of this speaker, but I have never heard them with what I believe would be adequate power. I would think the speaker would be very limit...
Vinylistas and Tubers - One and the same?
Vinyl almost exclusively with tubes. Have heard some very good S.S. stuff but this gear is much more expensive than my tubed equipment. Only interested in digital for convenience. As my ears mature and my system improves the difference between dig...
Horn speakers are really bright?
Well listening to Tri of Triplanars field coil horn system certainly enlightened me to the strengths of horns as have a few other systems I have heard throughout the years. Exposure to these better horn speakers had given me a appreciation of this...
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
phusis,I look forward to it.
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
phusis,Very well said. Certainly efficiency and also impedance are very important, but these are issues worthy of separate threads. I am trying to limit myself to addressing the notion of why larger cabinets sound larger and if this is a good thin...
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
I dont disagree. But you dont want additional coloration added by the cabinet. Tones change from the original instruments/recording by adding cabinet colorations. The sound of all speakers should come from the drivers, ribbons, panels or horns/com...
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
Speakers are not limited by cabinet size! If you give the proper amount of enclosure for a driver, an increase in cabinet size is always a negative. Unless of course you want to listen to the baffle and cabinet specific distortions. Some of the no...
