Stereophile review of Escalante Fremont
As a long time audio salesman, short time store owner, and now a Fremont dealer I think I can give you some valid opinions on the Fremont.First the measurement issue doesn't necessarily mean anything relevant. Most great sounding tube amplifiers m...
Anyone heard the New Luxman gear?
Interesting comment Jaybo, when at CES they were only demoing the solid state gear. Also their new Tube amplifier the M88 was reviewed extremely favorably by Positive Feedback.
Best Towers Under $4,000 / pair
I would add the Usher CP 6381 MK II. The Usher has a big open sound stage, well defined punchy bass, and a smooth lush midrange and treble. Before I became an audio dealer, I owned the WP 5.1 and the Usher CP 6381 actually outperformed the WP. Yes...
Best Home Theater sub or subs for a large room
A single JL Audio sub woofer would be where I would start with wiring for additional subs to come in later. The JL audio sub woofers are amazing. Two I would spend less money on fancy seats and put more money into the components.I checked out the B...
Best Home Theater sub or subs for a large room
The Jl Audio F 113 is an easy answer. It is extremely powerful with the tightest low bass response around it is a bit more expensive than what you mentioned but it is winning awards left and right for the quantity and quality of the bass. You are b...
Preamps with large display needed for bad eyesight
Bat has the 3ix for S3500 with Remote.Wonderful sound and terrific build quality.
BAT 75 SE vs. CAT JL2 or JL2 Sig.
Sorry guys but I have a different opinion.Yes the Cat amplifiers are magnificently built, but I have never thought the sound they produced was magically in any capacity. When I worked at SBS and they had the CAT amps on display, the amplifiers sou...
Room Acoustics overkill or worse?
I wouldn't recommend over damping the room. It all depends on the room. Today most acoustical engineers and audio setup people prefer combinations of diffusors and absorbers. An over damped room robs a system of vital presence and energy, so go sl...
Whats your "best of CES 2008"
The Wadia Dock was indeed impressive this allows you to purchase a state of the art Music Server and DAC from Wadia for just over $4,400.00. So ditto. I will be evaluating this unit in my shop when it becomes available to verify if the unit sounds...
life without audio dealers
How about a world without teachers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters etc?Your model is one where only the product matters and experience and system setup, means nothing. Sure you can do everything yourself with enough reading and practice howeve...
HRS M3 users
I use the HRS and they are indeed a wonderful improvement especially when used with source components.Maple is a lovely sounding wood but an HRS is a very advanced multi tier solution for vibration induced pollution.
Ayre AX-7e vs Plinius 9200
I have been a Plnius dealer for close to two years and I have never seen a piece fail, so I don't know what Wireless is talking about. The Plnius has a much warmer midrange with more punch that the Ayre which tends to be a clean slightly more drier...
Where's the best place for used audio gear in NYC?
You should be looking for the best gear which may or may not be used gear.In many instances a new piece of gear may outperform a much more expensive piece of older gear. You need to evaluate any purchase based on what sounds the best and I would al...
Rear Ported versus Non Rear Ported floor standing
The fact that a speaker is rear ported is immaterial. Most of the energy is coming out the front of the speaker. A port acts as a camber to lower the resonant frequency and increase the efficiency of the design. In my 20 years of professional exper...
