Good post sean...I have an LS-7 and lacked bass prior to switching the tubes.. of course, I am an Upscale audio fan..I went with new old stock tubes.. and the bass improved significantly... Also, When I changed my cart from a mm to a garrott k2 mc... 
An upfront and intimate player
I would suggest a Krell KAV 300 or even higher..The Krell is definately more forward and still very musical..It has a wider soundstage than my old Classe..Excellent build quality...The wadia is a nice piece too... I am not sure of the price.Good l... 
Lovan equipment and speaker stand owners...
OK...Filling the lovans is a great tweek.. It does however make them weigh a ton!! I use a fine silicone/glass powder that is more dense than sand.. I do not like lead shot due to the fact that it does not completely fill the tubes there is still ...

Regarding the fingerwand.. I have found that dampening it does help for those that are afraid to grind the sucker down... Try some small heat shrink tube with a little left over... it is a safe way to dampen it...It worked nicely for me... I just ... 
What type of solder do you use and why?
I prefer to use wbt silver solder..It has a relatively low melting point andwith this type of solder, it is definately important to use a stainless steel brush on the contact to get maximum adhesion... it is about 4 percent fine silver contentmelt...

Personally, I would start with a nice tube Preamp vs an amp... I think this would be a good start.. depending on what you are looking to accomplish.. If you intend on getting into vinyl.. go with a nice linestage tube preamp and an external phono ... 
Re tubing an ARC PH 3 SE....
Contact upscale audio upscaleaudio.comspeak with kevin the tube wizzard.. He will steer you in the right direction.. He helped me with my arc ls7 andsonic frontiers sfs 80... the system has never sounded so good.. and prices were reasonable..good ... 
Tube pre to use with Bryston 4BST
Have you considered trying a pair of different IC'sI have a kav 300 and use mit 330 cvt's with it and i hardly find it bright or harsh... If you get into a tube preamp, you will need to find a set of tubes as well that suits your needs sonically..... 
Need Amp Advice?
The B&k is a nice piece for the money... weighs a ton and has nice sound for theater and audio...I would stretch a little and get a 3 channel aragon 8008 and a 2 channel 8008 for ultimate sound..if your are at all into music... the b&k is ... 
MC cartridge?
Definately try the Garrott K2 from needledoctor.comabout 300... awsome mc cartridge..I use it with the p3, and the sound difference when I upgraded from a mm, audio technica was dramatic...So much more musical... Great value.good luck,joe 
Affordable cables
Check out the Goertz Alpha core M series..Definately can get for around a hundred. I use these with my analog setup and they sound fantastic!!
