Amarra for iTunes at RMAF...
Opps, my comment was intended for the response dated 10/19/2009 of Antipodes_audio. i failed to take note that this thread was multiple pages. My bad.
Amarra for iTunes at RMAF...
As a Windows software engineer for some 15 years now (independent consultant) I agree with Antipodes_audio. Windows has it's place, but OSX is a unix platform...read 40+ years of ongoing development. Unix in any flavor is inherently more stable an...
Bidat vs. Perfecwave MSB Playback Design
Thanks Restock, I appreciate you taking the time (as I do with everyone who posted/posts and entry). I will look into it, especially since I can go Firewire directly to the Weiss and I am using Amarra software now (well i am evaluating, jury still...
Bidat vs. Perfecwave MSB Playback Design
Thanks guys, but I'd really like to hear from someone who has done a true head to head with a Bidat or a Dynastation 2. I have compared my digital directly to a SOTA vacuum TT using a Lamm phono pre. They were both very very good. In the end, I ch...
WAV vs. AIFF
I think this was a good discussion and hopefully some of us acquired some useful information :) Love my hobby!!!
Apple TV vs Wadia 170i?
One thing, if you are using plastic Tos, do yourself a HUGE favor. GO GLASS!!! Tos-Link (Toshiba Link) itself is in no way inferior to the other formats...it is the plastic cable that kills the sound. I have experimented with both and my glass TOS...
Esoteric PS-0, Metronome Kalista, Burmester 969 ?
I have listened to analog tape on some very very expensive (huge) pro mastering reel to reel unit and I bought my first SACD (SCD-1) in 1998. SACD in my opinion is a dead format, and reel to reel is something I can't be bothered with. Hi-res files...
Esoteric PS-0, Metronome Kalista, Burmester 969 ?
I agree with Trendy. My uncle sold a Kalista not too long ago. It was one of the best transports he ever owned even trumping his CEC TLO MK II BUT his PS Audio P.W.T./P.W.D. beat both of them. He is now considering going the mac imac as music serv...
WAV vs. AIFF
"Brianmgrarcom Wrote":"Here we "may" see it slightly different. I do believe all the 1's and 0's can be brought back with absolutely no difference."/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////Remember that although all the bits are re...
WAV vs. AIFF
Right in so many ways, when the concomitant digital picture is put back together from a lossless compress, it looks just like the original file...but in my experience there is something ineffable which is lost during the 'rebuild' process. B&W...
Apple TV vs Wadia 170i?
Hmm, I have listened to the Benchmark DAC1 on several occasions. On both occasions I could not wait for them to take it out of the system. It just sounds like cold sterile digital from the days when all digital sounded ... well ... bad. I don't ge...
Apple TV vs Wadia 170i?
I would offer that Apple TV makes for the better musical source. I did not like the Wadia at all. It has a signature that is a bit shrill (tilted-up with a plastic artificiality) when compared to the Apple Tv or the mac mini. I also tried the unit...
WAV vs. AIFF
It absolutely is compressed (think about it, if it were not, it would be the same size as the original) BUT..every bit which is removed is replaced when it is played back unlike lossy compression inwhich files never return to the original state an...
WAV vs. AIFF
I have been using my mac mini for about 2 years as my main musical source (all transports GONE :) I did very heavy comparisons of AAC/WAV/AIFF and m4a(Apple lossless) my findings are that while Apple Lossless is very very good, you lose some air a...
Toslink to AT&T ST Conversion
Funny...I am trying to do the same thing. You may have to end up using a Monarchy dip and then converting the Tos to AES/EBU. You should also look into "glass" Toslink if you haven't. I have heard tell it very close if not equal to AT&T glass.Don
