help a Die hard ANALOG guy choose a budget CDP
Running music direct from a hard drive, via USB will be more than adequate.  Using an ethernet setup does not automatically make better sound.  Setting up a NAS can be very expensive and is far more involved than simply connecting an external USB ...

Agree... a "decent" DAC can be had for under that budget (used).  At the minimum, maybe get a Cambridge Audio DAC Magic Plus (about $500 new), just to get a taste for it.The computer necessary to simply run the program (Like JRiver) doesn't need t...
Stupid Question-What's the best way to choose?
Great amp you have... but drop the CD player totally. A reasonable DAC from $800-$1500 (used) fed with hi-res files will DESTROY that CD player - it will not even be close.I used to have Audioquest cables on the entire system... bought mostly used...

If you have that kind of budget, don't buy any CD player at all.  A good DAC with destroy the same priced CD player and those at 5X their cost, period.  Stop spinning CDs.  Moving parts, jitter, optics, laser, motor, etc.Buy a simple program like ...
***Advice Needed***Choosing Between Mini & Midi Monitors
Dynaudio seem to me too "plain" sounding and require high power and loud level to really shine.  A 25-watt tube amp will do nothing for the Dyns.  Not sure about your budget, but the Devore monitors are great for smaller rooms and lots of detail. ...
Do we really need anything more than 8" woofer and 1" tweeter for medium size room?
Need more than an 8" woofer?  Yes.Get a large, sealed subwoofer and see just how much DEEP BASS you are actually missing in your music. My main Tekton speakers (Lore Impulse) are using pretty cheap 10" Eminence paper woofers and these speakers play...
Suggestions on a new /used amp for Focal speakers.
Hafler 9303 or 9505 used for $500-$1,000 range (depending on condition) - incredible sounding SS amp with GOBS of power and control and smooth highs.  I have listened to $5k - $10k amplifiers that didn't sound this good. Also just tried a McCormack...
Subwoofers
A Martin Logan subwoofer is not even in the same galaxy as a REL.
Subwoofer hunt
Don't EVER hook up your main speakers THROUGH a subwoofer - the sound will suffer.... let the speakers roll off naturally.  Most of the filters in subwoofers are not that great to begin with and you are just adding another connection point and mor...

SVS and USU are "OK"... REL makes a far better sounding subwoofer for music.  Try and get it used.  For a home theater setup, the JL stuff is great.
REL high-level connection and McIntosh Autoformers
If you buy a REL sub, that is the ONLY way it should be hooked for music... hi-level.
Wow, everything posted for sale is ''light use''??
I love the sellers trying to unload a CD player (yeah, a CD player) that they paid like $20,000 for a few years ago for $12,000.  WOW.  Try $2,000 maybe.  Who is buying these CD players that cost as much as a car???Take almost ANY decent DAC aroun...
Against everything that high end cables stand for
Try the two TINY solid-core silver wires in Clear Day single runs and prepare to sell whatever cable you have as whatever price.  Just replaced a set of $1,650 Audioquest Gibralter (their best copper) with a pair of $150 single run Clear Day silve...
Cables that cost more than good loudspeakers
Source, source, source... the MOST important piece of the puzzle.  A speaker will only do what it is told.  Now, sure there are some crappy speakers out there that have no hope no matter what you put in front of them, but the speakers are not AT A...
Mark of a scammer...learn not to burn.
I sold a set of speaker cables just recently to someone that was from Vietnam, but wanted the item sent to his friend in California.  I agreed, he sent the PayPal payment and I mailed his package USPS Priority with tracking.  I also even took phot...
