Power cord? Why?
Viridian - the point is that if you cannot measure anything, then your mind may be playing trick on you or you have not gotten to the root-cause of the sonic change. At least if there are measurements that coincide with sonic changes, then theorie...
Power cord? Why?
Here is my theory as to why they make a difference, with analysis and measurements.Amplifiers demand current from the power-line when the capacitors in their power-supplies become momentarily discharged due to high-current transients in the music ...
Where do you start your cable upgrade?
Interconnect, source to Pre. The source has the highest output impedance, so it will be more sensitive to cable capacitance. Next in line should be the pre to amp.
Cable long question
Kana813 - this is very system dependent and particularly linked to the quality of your IC's and speaker cables. The general rule in 90% of systems is that speaker cables should be longer for optimum results.
Speaker cable recommendation ?

Cable long question
Shorter is always better for both IC's and speaker cables, but my analytical study has the following result: See the Audio FAQ at:http://www.empiricalaudio.comThe results indicate that speaker cables should never be shorter than IC's.
PC that wont change my amp's personality ?
Sounds like you are hearing the music that you have been missing. Inductive power cords can act like compressors or tone-controls, holding back the dynamics of the amp, particularly at HF. If there is harshness in the recording, shouldn't you be h...
Best bi-wire speaker cables under $1000
Why do you need biwire? Very few speakers actually benefit from it and think about this: The crossover was designed to have identical signals at both the woofer and tweeter input circuits. Whe you biwire, the voltage at the two inputs will be diff...
Silver DIY Interconnects
Sean - impedance is not a problem with analog interconnects. The digital IC's obviously need controlled impedance and I accomplish this using a combination of air dielectrics and expanded Teflon - a patented design. 75 ohms is very difficult to ac...
Why do AC cords make so much difference?
Baloney - there is no requirement for an earth ground. There is no "shunting" of noise necessary unless the power supply is letting power line HF noise through - this is unlikely. My transport has no earth ground and it is superb.
Silver DIY Interconnects
Capacitance of 45 pF/foot is a bit high IME. I prefer wires with 3-4 pF/foot. The detail is much better on ALL systems. However, low capacitance is not by itself sufficient. To make a world-class cable, you also need good metallurgy (as Sean menti...
Speaker Cables? Your input kindly requested.
Mikesinger hit the nail on the head. If you are having HF harshness, the IC's will most likely solve this, not the speaker cables.
Silver DIY Interconnects
Sean - I have heard the difference between "fine silver" and 99.99% and it is noticable to me in my system. If your system is not as resolving, you might not notice. Crump tells me that he has 6-nines silver and it is even better...
Silver DIY Interconnects
Jewelry store silver will be "fine silver", which is 99.95% pure at best. Much lower purity than that used in most high-end cables.
