Computer output to DAC, which route?
Lupin - Async USB works great, and furthermore beats Firewire.Read this:....http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=105049.msg1159717#msg1159717...........Firewire is dead!!Async USB also beats Sonos, Squeezebox Touch, Soolos and other servers....
tube dac
Look, just because one tubed system sounds soft does not mean that all will. Likewise, SS systems are all over the map from harsh to analog-like.If tube design is done well, and I'm talking about power delivery, it will do everything as well and h...
How to introduce computer audio to my system?
You can easily control Mac Mini from iPad, iPod or iPhone.Just install REMOTE app.Steve N.;Empirical Audio
Higher End USB Cables
Thanks for the shootout. Axis was one of my favorites.Make sure that when you do these tests, that the USB DAC or USB converter is powered from the same AC circuit as the computer that is driving it. Otherwise the common-mode noise can get in the ...
Why do modern DACs over $1,000 sound different?
The biggest difference in most DACs is the input interfaces, particularly USB. The design of these varies all over the map as does the quality of the master oscillators, which equates to jitter. For instance, I recently heard a W4S and drove it wit...
Replacement for Squeezebox Touch?
Sonos is very reliable, but it requires reclocking if you are to use it in a high-end system. Will only do 44.1, not 96. The jitter is much higher than the Touch, which actually benefits from reclocking too, but not as much.Steve N.Empirical Audio
Lack of bass with mac mini mp3/apple lossless file
Cerrot - sure it does, particularly 256K files.
Why does the recording sound better?
There is little doubt. What you are hearing is differences in jitter. The master clock, whether in the CD player or the computer or device is the most important part of any audio system. The master clock in the CD transport is affected by the vari...
Lack of bass with mac mini mp3/apple lossless file
Another option just occurred to me. You could continue using the Toslink output from the Mini, but feed it into a reclocker like the Synchro-Mesh and then to your DAC/Surround proc.. This will take care of the hardware jitter. A lot cheaper than a...
Lack of bass with mac mini mp3/apple lossless file
Too much jitter from the Toslink on the Mac Mini. I would never use it this way for music. Your software choices are probably at fault too.Consider instead an async USB converter wired with USB cable. S/PDIF coax to drive the DAC or SS decoder. Th...
Amarra a worthy investment?
I use itunes with Amarra 4318/19 with Caching turned on. It sounds slightly better in playlist mode, but not worth the hassles. There are only two Amarra releases that I like, and the 4318/190 is the best by far.Steve N.Empirical Audio
Music player vs server; Auraliti vs Sonore vs W4S
"Should compressed FLAC be a deal breaker? How much extra time and effort is it to rip with a PC using dBPoweramp with uncompressed FLAC?"It would be for me. I play only .wav files. Uncompressed FLAC is probably as good, but I have not tested this...
Meridian Sooloos or Qsonix? which is better?
You are better off to get Sonos and use a reclocker on your good system to a DAC like Metrum Octave or Wired for Sound DAC2. Other Sonos can be without reclocker. A lot cheaper and actually better SQ, as well as whole-house audio.http://www.sonos....
Amarra a worthy investment?
The thing to understand, particularly with USB interfaces, that music software all sounds different, even different revisions of the same player software.I have used Amarra for years and won more than one best of show with it, but I am really pick...
Best DAC for Meridian Sooloos
Not sure a new DAC will solve this. It might be jitter from the Sooloos. If you already have a decent DAC, it is not very expensive to try a reclocker first. This will often solve the problem.Steve N.Empirical Audio
