Why are brick and mortar HiFi dealers so bad?
I live in Atlanta where there are a good selection of Audio stores- HiFi Buys, Evolution, Georgia Home Theater, Magnolia. Liquid in Charlotte knows how to put good sound together as well.
Who else here is frugal?
As I get older, having components that are lighter in weight and easier to use become more appealing. You can get good sound without spending tens of thousands.
New upper trim level Corvette or seven year old used amps?
Lots of people are saving up for when they're dead. Get an Airstream Interstate and go see America and Canada. @coasttocoastphotoatl
Mattresses, not stereos is where the money is
You want a mattress where you can easily replace the parts when they wear out. Replacing a few parts every few years is cheaper than a new mattress which leaves more money for audio. And if you move, a Sleep Number bed breaks down into manageable ...
I have to downsize big time, any ideas on integrated amps and smaller 3 way speakers
So I just sold my KEF Reference 3's and am thinking of KEF LS-50W and some subs and just running SONOS. I'm probably going to sell my Bryston mono's and all the wires and go with something much smaller and lighter, and which doesn't make heat or u...
Audioquest vs. Others
I would say that AQ is in the top five. If you did a blind test among those five, you might discover a new brand. It's certainly worth a try. There's a whole lot of hype in the audio world.
Considering simplifying my system... talk me down (or whatever)
I worked in the moving and storage business in Atlanta for years, half the time as the GM for a smaller company, and the other half as Senior VP of sales and marketing for a large premium service oriented company. There are 6 million people in the...
Do you guys like Adele's music?
Adele can't sing. Also, how much longer must we endure Taylor Swift? And then there's Autotune....
Speaker upgrade question - Wilson vs Focal
I put Focal's in my Airstream Interstate. They rock. In the mornin' you go gunnin' for the man who stole your water....
I want to be moved and have the music touch my soul!
Drink alcohol. There is a shop that I went to that has a $500,000 system on display. It sounds great, but it doesn't sound $475,000 better than my system. Instead of constantly tossing thousands into your system, fill your house with SONOS and hav...
New $24,000 inter-connect
I own a pair and am very pleased with the sound. I even hooked them up to a large satellite dish in my back yard and was able to hear the Big Bang.
Integrated amplifier search
Dare I mention the (gasp) Sony TA-A1ES? Paid $1200 for a demo. It has a sweet class A sound, solid engineering, weighs 37.5 pounds, and comes from a company with deep pockets. Look at the speaker terminals and note they are about as good as it get...
New Look for Audiogon hard to work with
Todays word is: ineptitude.
Whole House Mains Wiring -- Ping: Jea48 (Jim) -- & ALL Others for your HELP!

Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
i had a haffier that i soldered together and then only one channel worked, but you could send it to the factory to get it working right. this was my first venture into separates. i also had a perreaux that sounded nice.
