older CD transport vs newer ones.
In my experience a Good CD transport which only reads Red Book will out perform competition which reads multiple formats due to engineering compromises. Not all CD transports will perform the same even though technically they should. More compromis...
CDP or DAC?
CEC makes one of the best belt drive transports and CD players on the market at a price point. http://audio-union.com/audio-union/cec/
Distributed Bass Array configuration
I don't agree with much of anything written on this thread, except for if you like it then you got it correct. On the other hand, bass sub frequencies are felt more than they are heard and you feel directionality in your sinuses, medical science. ...
Streamer question
I follow the path of yage69 and x5owner1 with a little different twist. These days some DAC's have streaming capability designed into the product. Go look for a DAC with an internet connection port or Wi-Fi and work from there.
How to isolate turntable from footstep shake or vibration
The resonant frequency of the system needs to be lower than the operating frequency for isolation to occur. Most isolation systems have a resonant frequency in the audio range. The only systems I know of, which are also non-powered, which the reso...
Fraud and scam, how many of you are victims?
Odd, all these complaints are tied to the US legislation, "Communications Decency Act" section 230. This particular section relieves the web sites and providers from responsibility for material posted on or through their products. As a result a 20...
NAD processor issue, CEC problems.
I do not have a NAD processor. I do have a TL5 connected to a DA5 with a SPDIF connection and an optical connection to a computer running Qobuz and Media Center. I have only experienced problems with lower quality or damaged cables.
My Last CD player
I use a CEC TL5 transport and DA5 DAC in my personal system. CEC makes on of the best belt drive transports on the market at a price point. I like the musicality of the CEC products the best. CEC transports only read RED Book and they do that extr...
Holographic Soundstage ?
MillerCarbon is correct, wait for the system to settle down and the new items to break in. After 300 hours you will have a good idea of what to expect for performance in the future. Patience
What do we hear when we change the direction of a wire?
I have spent decades of my life in research labs. Part of my work includes sound and conduction. Companies protect proprietary information. The general public (and in some cases even researchers) is always years if not decades behind in the unde...
Sending a 110 lb amp to the manufacturer for cleaning/calibration. Good idea? How to ship?
The first response is exactly the method I would use except I would use a rubber foam. The minimum thickness completely surrounding the product is 1" or 25 mm. I have the same experiences and I do world wide shipping for about the same period.
Bang for the buck vs. “money no object” cable recommendations
If money is no object. Then I would be happy to fabricate custom silver cables. Air tube suspension, Sealed tube, and full spectrum shielding for starters. My work has replaced most of the cables listed so far in this thread. I have a showroom wit...
Looking for my "last" CD transport
If you are not sensitive to the difference between the Red book performance you get with a DVD player or a pure red book transport. Get a DVD player and save the money. Otherwise get a Red Book only transport. I distribute and service CEC products...
CD player reliability.... good and bad.
CEC Transports are top loading. Rarely have an issue. CEC transports only read "Red Book", but they do it very well.
Life span of silver cables with cotton/air dielectric
First the disclaimer, I am an engineer, I design cables for AV and stereo audio systems. I have worked exotic and precious materials since the 1970's. I have the materials and the resources to make just about any cable design I care to evaluate fo...
