Here's to the temperate, the gentle, the moderates in audio
@cdc I hope this isn't considered too far off the subject, but can you or anyone else speak to the audio quality of music pulled off of Utube.  I have heard some pretty good music from them, but I am only listening through a standard computer syst...
CD Transport
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Yahama CD-1000 SACD.  Over the years several reviewers have praised the build quality of it's structure.  For $1300 new or less used, it might be worth considering.  This is especially true if you buy it...
Can anyone explain what a power tube does inside an amplifier, eg kt88.
@emergingsoul   Someone mentioned using CHTgpt, so I decided to access it and a pretty good and simple explanation comes out.  Here is what it says:  Chat history New chat Close sidebar       Today I...
Does anyone know where this J. Gordon Holt comes from?
@pythonboot  touche.  Our younger generations, X,Y,G, whatever don't seem to have much respect for truth.
Why do Tube Amps sound more romantic v SS amps
@aseaman007 -- I have just read through your original question and most of the response post and have this question for you.  What if any audio equipment do you have now and about how much money do you plan to spend?  Because, really good tube equ...
Can anyone tell me where the progress in audio went?
There is a lot of truth in what others have already published, but the biggest setback  in high quality audio over the last twenty+ years has been extreme price increases and unsustainable rent cost for audio stores.  More than 90% of all audio sh...
Improving Comcast modem signal
Guys, I have read most of the posts on this thread and I can relate to many of the problems that have been mentioned.  In a short phrase:  COMCAST SUCKS.  And in my case there is no alternative, AND they know it. The only reason to put this out i...
Inflation
@nonoise  the guy who you are probably talking is unfortunately correct.  Inflation is caused when too much money chases a limited supply of goods and services.  COVID may have crimped the supply chain, but it was and is GOV that is printing money...
Which component to upgrade to improve bass control?
@stuartk  I have read many of the responses before mine and although some seem helpful, I think that most miss the central point, which as I read your original post is BASS BLOOM. The two most important affectors of bass bloom are poor amp control...
EXTRA! EXTRA!! Millercarbon Proven Wrong!!! Read all about it! EXTRA! EXTRA!!
To Miller Carbon and any others who think that cables made of copper or silver get OLD, this is just a comment and a question.  I know cables can sound different, I've heard such differences myself.  Mostly those differences have to do with attenu...
Best DAC / Budget
Your DAC cost $99, what do you expect?  Schitt Audio makes much better; like the $899 Gungnir.  You get good flexibility from a great designer, a fair price and a chance to try it out for 15 days before committing to buy. Oh yeah; it's made in the...
AGD Audion GaN Class D In The House
@rh67   Have you heard the new NAD M33 that Stereophile rates so highly and if so, in your opinion how does it stack up against what your AGD sounds like.  I realize that the M33 is an integrated amp, but still I'm interested in what you might thi...
Backup Generator transfer switch
Guys and gals, it sounds like we all need to buy some Generac stock.   Actually, if you put an Oscilloscope on the power line during switch over, it will look like a squiggly worm for a couple of minutes, then it steadies out.  So, your primary pr...
Killer used integrated for
Not to talk down any of the other suggestions, but NAD is your best bet as far as availability, performance and price.
Not Thrilled with Vandersteen 2CE Sigs - where is the first place to work on?
@gjinwi .  I once reviewed a pair of 2Cs and did not like them either, but that may not be your problem, because the APT Holman preamp is notorious for what I will call " long life deterioration".Specifically, the PC boards on which they were buil...
