speaker choice help below $800
cdc and nrchy wouldn't steer you wrong, so look closley there, but you might also want to look at a used pair of Totem Model 1 Sig's.
Help me select an integrated amp. Options please
Trust me, a no brainer, either AirTight 300B or Berning's 'lil SE amp. If on the cheap, look at a Sun Audio someone has souped up or Fi X amp with better transformers that someone has optioned for.
How could High End audio be improved?
Thank you cdc.Yes, gregm, good point. "Leisure" activity is not just looking at the body (I'm sitting still), or, that I'm not engaged what is defined in society as leisure (what I'm doing when I'm not at a job, leisure defined by what it is not),...
Ok this will be a good thread.
Paulup, really didn't think you disagreed either, just yapping and trolling. Sorry, should have not yapped so much and did more trolling. :)I think your point is a very good one. How can we enjoy musical meaning on a car radio, and then can't sit ...
Ok this will be a good thread.
Oh, Paulup, did I really say that? Hmmm. Yea, I do jam away on the car radio, and we know that's no good as a component, ie, presumably your "bad". But then again, are we really talking about being that "bad" in componentry? I start out with a hyb...
Ok this will be a good thread.
OK, I'm also lossing my mind - its twl's "How could hiend be improved?" thread in Misc. Audio.I give you permission to go there and beat on me...:)
Ok this will be a good thread.
Yea, Muralman, I must be losing my touch. BUT, just look at the post I just put on twl's "This will be a good thread" in Amp/Pre section (poor twl...). I'm figuring to get roasted alive! Your meter will be off the dial!Ahhh, just like getting in a...

I think that many of the above responses are excellent and well thought out, but seem to address mechanics. In other words, as with most things in our society where we assume that if we just invent another thing, or another technique, or another s...
Timbre TT1 DAC
Owned one for 4 yrs before going to single-box - only reason for change in $50K system. Musical, spacious, detailed, dark. Build quality exceptional. Aesthetic appearance exceptional. You won't be disappointed at $600-800. Tpsonic right about cabl...
Ok this will be a good thread.
You're right, ohn, add that in.
Ok this will be a good thread.
Its a sliding scale, that's why you are seeing so many good and valid responses from different people. How can that be?Well, at first, speakers are the most critical. When setting up a beginner system, start at the speakers. You get 'em a nice pai...
From tubes to solid state. What do you loose...
Muralman, you know, I think I have an idea what you like, and I do think you'd like the Supratek. In fact, I'd think you'd love it. It doesn't have that tubey sound like many tubed pre's. I love my Joule, but it wouldn't be for you because its sof...
From tubes to solid state. What do you loose...
Hi Muralman. Do you like the Scintilla better? I assume the Pass 600's are eating them up. I hope you are dizzy with FUN!Tok, we've been dancing around about this - you have responded a couple of times to my posts where I've said that tubes are su...
Preamps for dummies that would be me
Theoretically, a wire should pass only signal, and a pre should pass only signal, and the original mike should pass only the original signal (of voice), and the mixing board should pass only signal, blah, blah. But the fact is, the empiric fact ba...

Brauser gives good advice. If you are hassled by a SF amp then you should back away at this point. Do the tube pre with NOS tubes mated to a SS amp and you'll be happy. You want happy? Sell the SF and get a Supratek Chardonay pre, drop out the stoc...
