Coil Repair on Shure V15 III
Ask Steve Leung or Andy Kim or Peter Ledermann if it can be done. They'll know.
Re-tipped stylus vs original manufacturer
I recently had a Zyx Airy 3SB rebuilt by Steve Leung at VAS. I paid $250 for the cart knowing it needed a rebuild, and he charged $450 and I have a cartridge that now sounds fantastic. I talked to Mehran and the Zyx factory exchange cost was $1500...
amp for ZU Audio Druid V speakers
I own Druid Vs, and I pair them with Atma-Sphere M-60s, which I A-Bed with a Decware Torii Mk IV for over a year before the M-60s won out. I previously drove that combo with a Don Sachs DS2 and it was very good, but now I have an Atma-Sphere MP-3 ...
Does remote control degrade the sound of tube preamps?
I own an Atma-Sphere MP-3 preamp, which I purchased used without remote. I used it for a bit with the manual stepped attenuator, but ultimately couldn't live without the convenience so I sent it back to Ralph to have the remote installed. If the s...
Don Sachs DS2 Preamp - too good to be true?
I own the following: Modwright LS-100 Don Sachs DS-2 LTA MZ-2 Atma-Sphere MP-3 The one that’s staying is the MP-3. All of them are very good, but the MP-3 is best in my system; not surprising, since my amps are Atma-Sphere M-60s. It combines ...
Anyone can add RCA’s out to my Denon?
You might end up spending half or more of the cost of the Denon to get those RCAs installed. Depending on your quality needs, would something like this work if your HDMI out is free?   https://www.amazon.com/Converter-Composite-Adapter-Support...
Atma-Sphere M60 Matching DAC and Preamp
I also own M-60s, and I was fortunate enough to score a deal on Ralph's MP-3 which, unsurprisingly, is the best of all the preamps I've tried. Prior to this my favorite was the LTA MZ2, which bested a Modwright LS-100, a Don Sachs Model 2, and a D...
Pass INT-25 better than Wilsenton R8?
I have a Willsenton R8 in my second system right now, and it's terrific. It's not better than the Atma-Sphere gear in my main rig, but it's perfect for the living room. Everyone is correct that you need to give the Pass some break-in before you c...
Cartridge Loading.....Part II
Now that I have better designed phono preamps, most of my MC cartridges sound better at 47K loading. There are a couple, especially my Denon 103R that sound better with lower loading, but I like the 103R at 1.6K rather than 100 or 400 ohms. Since...
recommendation for phono pre amp and mc cartridge, around 1000$ each
stone1, Yes, that's the tape I used, and I wrapped the entire length. The counterweight I had would still balance the arm; if your arm is heavier you might need to use less tape, maybe wrap half. It's pretty easy to remove if you need to experime...
recommendation for phono pre amp and mc cartridge, around 1000$ each
stone1, The 103R is a good all around performer that isn't really fussy about what arm you use, as long as it has enough effective mass. As stated above, it was mostly insensitive to the azimuth control issues of the WT arm, so it sounded very co...
recommendation for phono pre amp and mc cartridge, around 1000$ each
stone1, That's correct, I sold my WTRP years ago, although the 103R is still in my rotation of cartridges. I haven't heard anything about the E-Glo containing any noise reduction circuitry. Nothing I've read indicates that.
Other Rectifier tubes Alternative for 5AR4
Jokerman1226, I can confirm that a 5U4G will *not* fit under the cover of a stock LS100. I believe Dan can provide a cover with a hole to accommodate taller rectifiers. I ran a 5U4 in that preamp for a long time, and I just kept the cover off. FW...
recommendation for phono pre amp and mc cartridge, around 1000$ each
stone1, Yes, my WT had the black carbon fiber arm. I used teflon plumbers tape for the arm wrap; if you do a little searching I know others have used different materials with success. It's pretty easy to apply if you take your time. The E-Glo us...
recommendation for phono pre amp and mc cartridge, around 1000$ each
My favorite cartridge (and I tried many) on my Well Tempered Record Player was the Denon 103R. The conical stylus was a great match for the wandering azimuth of the WT arm. I added an arm wrap to raise the effective mass, which worked way better t...
