Axioms and Ascends I've heard the Axioms and the Ascends, and I bought the Epos ELS-3s. I agree with Plinko that the Axioms were bright, but I found the Ascends to be just a little too laid back. The Epos (also a metal tweeter) were just right to my ears. I have a t...
Any Warp correction LP services available ? I've used the glass plate method with only moderate success. On some LPs the bead would heat up and deform enough to allow the glass to contact the grooves before the record would flatten out. This would leave a flat spot in the grooves and ruin t...
correct way to turn off tube preamp I'm on the lower end but am also incredibly pleased with my Wright Sound WLA12A and my modded Hafler DH-200. I leave the Hafler, my tuner, and my CD player on 24/7, and none generate any significant heat, nor do they draw very much power at idle. ...

NAD 533 or Pro-Ject Debut turntable? Psychicanimal is correct that the construction of the two units is similar, and if you're unsure whether you'll be staying with vinyl long term, his advice to get something used and inexpensive is spot on.However, if you're pretty sure you'll love...
KAB EV-1 users? Whoops! Wrong URL for Chris's DIY cleaner...it's here:http://www.teresaudio.com/haven/cleaner/cleaner.htmlThanks for any info!David
Hum in system from interconnects??? I had this same problem with my Hafler DH-200 and any length interconnect. Turned out the body of one of my RCA input jacks had come into contact with the metal chassis. As soon as I got the jack isolated, all hum ceased.David
Goldring GR-1l Music Hall MMF 2.1, Sunmiko Pro-Jec I own the MMF 2.1, which is virtually identical to the Debut. They're nice tables, but the Goldring (which I've seen and heard) is a fair step up by virtue of the Rega RB 250 tonearm fitted, and comes with a little better cartridge. It's also abou...
Budget speaker selection help I've heard the Axioms, the Vandy 1s, and the Epos, and I now own the Epos. My biggest issue was my 12x12 listening room. Any speaker with too much low end just overwhelmed the space. The Epos are great down to about 50-55hz and then roll off rapid...
RB300 with broken finger lift Rnm4:I bought an RB250 from Curtis (Audiophileanswers) a few months ago. It had the finger lift intact, but was a demo. It arrived in perfect condition and exactly as described. The broken finger lift problem is pretty common to Regas, as the allo...
'great' bookshelf speakers for under 500? I love my Epos ELS-3s. They're terrific in my 12x12 room.
What to do about speakers? Along the same lines as the SB2, I can recommend the Epos ELS-3. They 87db and 4 ohms, so they should be okay with your Marantz, and they are outstanding in my 12x12 listening room. Surprisingly smooth high end for an aluminum tweeter, and very ti...
DL103 vs. DL103R I also own the 103R, and find the top end very smooth, not overly bright at all.David
Modding Hafler Amps? If you're going to mod your DH-500 yourself, I highly recommend The POOGE Chronicles. They outline modding in general, and the DH-200 specifically, along with a number of other pieces. The principles they use could be applied to anything you were ...
Vintage Advents too big for small room? I wanted to revive this thread just to thank everyone for the great advice and provide an update. The depth of knowledge and helpfulness here on Audiogon is truly humbling. After exhausting my possibilities with placement and room treatment, I brok... |
