What is the name of the tool?
I’ve used a 1 ohm load resistor in series with the speaker. I measured the voltage drop across the resistor with an HP rms volt meter while measuring spl at one meter on axis with a B&K spl meter. Source is a sine wave generator. I^2*R=power.
I was told to put Kitty Litter in my new speaker stands. Was he joking?
I suggest using osmium shot or pure iridium. If not fill your stands with mercury. If you have any mercury left over mix it with equal parts vodka and lime juice and drink it while listening to the results of your labors.
Moving to France
I think we’ve solved the electrical issues with the step down transformer and it occurs to me that the Oracle tt has a dc power supply so the 50hz supply is a nonissue unless my d-a converter uses 60hz to clock its circuitry. Btw premiere cru Bord...
Moving to France
Thank you all. My wife is a French national, we have a house in the middle of France, my wife obviously speaks French and I speak French, German, and a little English. Maybe I could use a signal generator (I have a couple of them) and one or two F...

Just any industrial stepdown transformer?what about snail conversion?
Over current message?
Thank you!
Speaker wire... Diy?
I use Belden telephone trunk line cable. One pc for each terminal. Strip an inch of insulation off each strand, twist together, then solder them together. I used 63/37 but high Ag may be better. You end up with something like 72 insulated strands ...
Should I upgrade my system while losing my hearing?
I use digital hearing aids and really like them. When tested, 4k and up were found to be way down, something like 40dB (I don’t remember exactly but it was significant.)Correction was setup to less than 100%. I was told that I’d have a problem wit...
DC Offset Blocker/Killer - where to buy in the USA
What about trying a 3000 microfarad 200v non polar cap in series with your line to block dc if there is any. Also if the line cord is flipped over (left prong on the right) shouldn’t the buzz move to the other transformer?Otherwise I’d think you s...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
Lots of highly subjective discussion.I will look at my AC at the receptacle then after the surge suppressor then after the power conditioner. My scope is only good to 100MHz but I think that that should be sufficient. Anything AFTER the power cond...
What is the most dramatic way of increasing a speaker's Bass and Low mid?
Why not download REW (it’s free) and drop 100$ on a USB mic with a calibration file. Next, measure your system. Perhaps moving your speakers around may help, perhaps not. I suspect that your 6.5” drivers are just too small but you really need to m...
For those of us over 60..
Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix, & Jeff Beck. Add Blind Faith & Cream.
DIY ?uestion
@trelja In addition to big, very LF TLs, I built a series of small TLs using 4" LF drivers. The first iteration used a higher Q driver that refused to deliver the calculated 56kHz roll-off until a bit of putty was added to the driver dust cap. The...
DIY ?uestion
I have built a number of transmission lines. Generally, I’ve set the line length to be 1/4 of the wavelength of the lowest frequency but assume that the packing effectively reduces the speed of sound by 1/2 (most likely because of the packing (I u...
Help with advice for high end speaker cables for my system!
I use two lengths of audio snake cable for each speaker (I am bi-amped so each side gets 4 lengths.) This cable has 24 shielded pairs of silver coated copper. After stripping, the pairs and shields are twisted together and tinned with high silver ...
