use your magnifier on handphone to try. place it on blank cd. and reduce vtf to half. anti skate offroughly it can be seen. but ortofon is not easy to get vta right they have quite soft cantilever. they will change when stylus is playing . normall...

what I noticed ..higher gain  works superb for macro. maybe not Mc or mm or mi lower gain like 0.4mV the micro gets better. things like live recording the veil opens and and the layers peel off. the layers becomes clear.  
Is LP distortion the record or the cartridge?
it can be challenging to set expensive carts. everything have to be spot on.  the more hi end the more demanding on setup. i suggest looking at setup video exhibition by Michael fremer. it helped us Alot.!  his article on compliance is on analog p...

depends how much time, money, effort is invested...both my digital and analog is of equal quality now. they have different flair and I enjoy both.But fun.?    analog is way way fun and involving  
Suggestions for TT upgrade
just use it and enjoy them slowly upgrade... it's a journey you should enjoy as there is many knowledge  involved in playing turntable. it's cheap to make mistake now to prevent more expensive mistakes.
