Good tube preamp with Sony 5400
Mcpherson, that other thread we were both on seems to have been deleted. Long time, no see. I would imagine an extra investment would make a difference, but only you can decide it it's worth it to you. I own the Doge and really love it, but don't ...
xa5400es, emm labs, Meridian for classical piano.
If cost is not important, just buy the 5400 and arrange auditions with dealers for the Meridian and EMM so you can listen to them in your own system. You won't lose much on the 5400 in resale, and can determine which of the three suits you best. I...
Rolling Stone Mag 100 Greatest Guitarists
that is pretty cool. i always loving hearing musicians i love refer to other musicians i love. like hearing the guys from cream talk about hendrix cutting clapton. love all the stories and impressions. speaking of which, if you haven't seen it, lo...
Smooth/Musical Bookshelves upto $1500 - $2000
Nola Boxers are great, but seem pretty substantial for a desktop at almost a foot deep. (15.5 inches H x 8 inches W x 11.5 inches D) I can imagine Incarcerated Scarfaces sounding fantastic on them, though. :)
Can best optical player rival best computer source
i'd never heard about the ps3 sacd rip ability, but found this:http://code.google.com/p/sacd-ripper/that's pretty cool. given the low cost of a used pre-2007 ps3 on ebay or craigslist, i would think it would be worth trying out before buying the e...
Can best optical player rival best computer source
i agree with mrtennis that it is a matter of opinion, much like it would be an opinion as to what would constitute the best optical player and the best computer source. for myself, i'm agnostic when it comes to claims about the superiority of one ...
Smooth/Musical Bookshelves upto $1500 - $2000
i would heed bongofury. he has the best username of anyone who has replied to your query and a history of sound responses to questions. apropos of atc, any suggestions as to where one would go to hear them in southern california? i'd like to hear ...
DAC with volume control under $250
Thank you for that. I'm not too surprised that a) it's nothing more than good for the money and b)your friend is very happy with it. As far as the Benchmark comparison, that seems like wishful thinking or confirmation bias. It seems rampant on int...
Are CD players dead
i don't think so. i think the owner of the store is a salesman. nothing moves product like a sense of urgency. :)
Rolling Stone Mag 100 Greatest Guitarists
:) seriously. they must just assemble all these lists to generate web traffic. i honestly can't think of any of my personal acquaintances, many of whom are passionate about music, who subscribe to RS. and this has been the case for about 20 years ...
Smooth/Musical Bookshelves upto $1500 - $2000
i use audioengine2 speakers on my desktop and can't imagine using anything much bigger than them or john blue jb3's, but my desk may not be as large as yours. still, i would think listening at that nearfield a position will necessitate some compro...
Which makes more sense? - CD player vs SACD
+1 on the Rega system. I'd use the Harbeth and just add the Rega Brio R and Rega Dac. Plug your legacy player into the DAC until you decide if you really want to do more listening to CDs or if you want an SACD player, and then get the new Apollo. ...

where do you live and what opportunity do you have to audition speakers before you buy?
Rolling Stone Mag 100 Greatest Guitarists
rolling stone blows. i wouldn't pay much attention to their lists.
