Schitt Audio Still in business???
My headphone setup consists of a lyr 2 and a bifrost multibit. I also have 2 Wyrd USB regenerators.I'm Extremely happy with all of their products. I ordered via their web site, items shipped within a day, never needed CS.A few weeks ago my old tra...
Shopping for an integrated, advice s'il vous plait.
@donjr - why would I be kidding?Any of these integrated amps will sound far better than the Sansui (or similar), and will most likely be far more reliable. I've heard the most highly regarded vintage receivers, including TOTL Marantz, Sansui, Yama...
Shopping for an integrated, advice s'il vous plait.
There are so many options for modern integrated amplifiers in your price range, why would you want a 40 year old Mass produced Japanese receiver?Look here on Audiogon - within your price range currently for sale:Canary Audio 608 Wyerd 4 Sound STI-...
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
Hi George,I'm very impressed with your candor: And if his source (AMR CD-77.1) had a volume control of it’s own, it would have sounded even better to him direct.Wow... coming from the manufacturer of the product, that is rare.If I ever consider a...
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
Thanks for the detailed post Mitch.I totally agree with you that if your source and amp gain and/or impedance are mismatched, an active unit may improve the overall result. What i'm questioning is the common approach on how to solve this mismatch.M...
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Coldplay, last week at Levi's stadium, Santa Clara, CA.One of the best concerts I've been to in recent years. Great music, brilliant performance. Not a single person could sit down. It was that electrifying. Sound, light, and production were just ...
SET 45 Amp Driving Dynamic Speakers
I am using a Yamamoto A08S SET 45 with EML mesh tubes, driving a pair of Zu Audio Druids in a dedicated listening room about 15'x18' and the result is just stunning. The transparency, detail, tempo, balance and realism is far beyond anything I've e...
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
Thanks for all your comments!RE: shorter path / better parts with preamp - I doubt that is the case here. The passive I was using has a $400 P&G volume pot, and the volume control of the DS DAC is a digital one AFAIK, so it introduces no addit...
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
Thanks for your input czarivey,Fortunately, my power amp is so gorgeous looking with it's Japanese cherry wood finish, that I have it on the top shelf of my rack (also for better heat dissipation of course :-). Therefore, changing the IC cables is...
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
I think my point for discussion is actually better phrased this way:Instead of looking for a best (objective) match between 3 components, source-preamp-amp, perhaps we should be looking for the best direct source-amp match, eliminating the preamp ...
Best Preamp - NO preamp... (?)
Thank you all for your thoughts.I totally get it that it's always a personal preference, and depends on component output level, input gain, and impedance matching. Some DACs don't even offer a variable gain output so for those it's not even an opti...

Best interconnects used for around $500 +?
From my experience, I would highly recommend you try out either used Tara labs air 1's, or Zu audio mission (new) or even better Zu audio event (if you can find used) which should all be within your budget and provide an amazing value for money. I...
My most remarkable service experience ever.
Hi GSM,Thanks for sharing.I also had great experience with Zu Audio.Always super friendly and willing to help. When My iPhone's mission cable broke (probably at my fault...), I sent it in for repair, fully expecting to pay for service. Within a wee...
What vintage speaker might you use today
My bedroom system uses a pair of (modded) hafler 300 speakers (http://www.hafler.com/pdf/archive/Model_300_speaker_man.pdf) and in my living room I have a pair of Ryan Acoustics MCL-3. Both circa 1980's I believe.I'm very happy with both.in my mus...
