Tape in + tape monitor = passive preamp?
In the last sentence of my previous post, that should obviously be "leading you to listen at a higher volume level," not "leading you listen ..."-- Al
Tape in + tape monitor = passive preamp?
One further thought: I would speculate that the reason you are sensing increased detail using the tape inputs may simply be that the attenuation of the low end is leading you listen at a higher volume level in that configuration.Regards,-- Al
Tape in + tape monitor = passive preamp?
I took a look at the schematic for your B60R integrated amplifier.First, along the lines of Newbee's comment, there is an active amplifier stage between the tape input and the input to the power amplifier section (or, correspondingly, between the ...
Inverted Amplifiers
Any of the methods indicated in the thread I linked to, or that Stan referred to, will allow you to determine the correct setting of the 0/180 switch, without first determining if the amplifier inverts.Alternatively, you could contact the amplifie...
Inverted Amplifiers
In the following thread you'll find several suggested methods for setting the phasing of subs relative to mains, which is what it sounds like you are trying to do:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?cspkr&1258010309Keep in mind that both p...
Tube Preamps
I second Rwwear's suggestion of experimenting with various toe-in angles, and I suggest that you do that as thoroughly as possible, trying many angles. Here's my reasoning:Bob made an excellent find with the S&V frequency response plots. Here ...
Crossover Tutorial
An excellent place to start is by reading the comments offered in the following thread by the noted designer Steve McCormack (Stevemcx), especially if you want to consider passive biamping (without an external crossover):http://forum.audiogon.com/...
Anything like the Ayre CX-7e but with digital in?
The Simaudio Moon CD3.3, at around $3K, appears to fit your requirements. The digital input is SPDIF only, not usb, via an rca connector. The manual indicates that the SPDIF input can accept sample rates up to 192kHz, and since the dacs in the unit...
Are anti-cable interconnects properly shielded?
Keep in mind that the shield of an unbalanced interconnect not only reduces emi/rfi pickup, but must provide a connection path that is as low impedance as possible, in order to minimize pickup of low frequency hum and high frequency buzz due to co...
The Hub: Does a pair of 5's beat an 8?
Surely just the elimination of crosstalk or power supply cross-modulation has to make two monos better than a stereo amp?Yes, certainly, but to a degree that may or may not be significant in any given system, and only if everything else is equal o...
The Hub: Does a pair of 5's beat an 8?
I've never heard the 5's or 8 or 8b, although as I indicated in the Hub article on the Marantz 9's I had owned both 2's and 9's some years ago (both of them being monoblocks, of course).Looking at the schematics, though, it appears that the 5 used...
Suggestions on a balanced preamp?
"worrisomely"? Cool word, but at least one too many syllables for daily use.Yeah, guess you're right. But it saved me the trouble of calculating the numbers more precisely. :)Regards,-- Al
Suggestions on a balanced preamp?
Keep in mind that the preamp you choose should have low output impedance, and the cabling you choose should have low capacitance (such as the Blue Jeans cables Bob suggested). Balanced connections do not negate the possibility that high output imp...
Suggestions needed for an SS Stereo Amp w/+175wpc
Bob_reynolds: Do you have any idea what the output impedance is for the Carver amp? In the Sunfire amp Bob placed a 1 ohm resistor in series with the output and labeled those "Current" to provide a more tubish sound. I wonder if what you experienc...
Improving on the Sonata IIIs, which speakers?
This getting older business sure ain't for the youngsters. Reckon that's why they put it at the end so you can toughen up along the way. That's pretty perceptive too, chief. Definitely gets the "best quotation of the week" award, and perhaps a nomi...
