XLR or RCA cables
The Jensen transformer sounds intriguing. Where can I get information on them or purchase one?Jensen Home Page (click on "Iso-Max Audio Isolators" in the upper left, and then scroll down)PI-2RX Datasheet (same as PI-2XX shown, except with RCA inpu...
Question about BNC to RCA adapters?
It just makes it mechanically compatible. It won't help whatever degree of impedance discontinuity (mismatch) is presented by the RCA jack on the component, and it will most likely add an additional discontinuity of its own.Regards,-- Al
is one ear usually stronger?
See an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat doctor), and have him check for wax buildup in your ears, and remove it as necessary.I once had wax build up in one ear to the point that it was difficult to hear anyone on the telephone with that ear...
DId lightening strike twice? Amp s problem
Try unplugging the TV and everything else in sight that could conceivably be generating and radiating RFI/EMI into the amps. The fact that the VAC buzzes when the inputs are unconnected, but does not buzz when the inputs are shorted, may be an ind...
DId lightening strike twice? Amp s problem
Another question: By any chance have any or all of the speaker cables you have tried been types having ultra-high capacitance, such as Goertz?Best,-- Al
DId lightening strike twice? Amp s problem
Any way to check? If you have a multimeter, set the ground switch on the VAC to the DC position, and with the amp's inputs and AC power disconnected, check for continuity between each of the RCA ground sleeves and the chassis. The AC safety ground...
DId lightening strike twice? Amp s problem
Sorry to hear of that, Michael. And, yes, that is all pretty baffling. I have no particularly promising thoughts to offer, but fwiw:1)Do the interconnect cables fit so tightly that you might have damaged the RCA connections on the amps when removi...
EE Minimax DAC repair
Sorry to hear that, Dave. I still think it would be worthwhile, though, to order replacements for the parts in inexpensive form, and give them a try. Per Doug's articles the LME49710 and LME49720 should be suitable, and can be ordered from Digikey...
EE Minimax DAC repair
I have no illumination from within the unit - board, diodes, or otherwise - so if we assume one or more of the OpAmps were installed incorrectly, what is the likelihood that the entire unit, as opposed to simply the OpAmps, is salvagable (vs repl...
1.2k Output Impedance to 10k Input Impedance
I spoke to Jenson and was advised that the most appropriate unit for my needs would be the PC-2. it is a 4:1 ratio and therefore would satisfy the needs of both the preamp and poweramp - the preamp seeing a load of 34k ohms and the power amp 225 o...
Amp output to 2 speakers
I assume without a signal, the 2 ohm load is moot. Is that true?Yes, that is true.Best regards,-- Al
Can My Subwoofers Damage My Home
Many years ago I played the M&K Realtime direct-to-disc recording "The Power and the Glory," which features organ music played on multiple giant organs in a large church. The album notes indicate that there were a total of 11,848 pipes, includ...
Beautiful Vocals...
While a lot of the music that she is most often identified with was, shall we say, of a different era, in my entirely subjective opinion Connie Francis had the best overall combination of voice, talent, looks, and versatility (recording numerous g...
XLR or RCA cables
I am currently running 2 meter RCA interconnects with adapters at the amp but was wondering if running XLR cables with an adapter at the preamp would offer any improvement. In principle, using an XLR cable with an adapter at the preamp is the bette...
EE Minimax DAC repair
I have no particular familiarity with the Minimax, but as an electrical design engineer, and after looking at the pin configurations of these devices (shown on page 3 here and page 5 here) I believe Doug is absolutely correct. Inserting either of ...
