Woofer pumping WHY??
Matt, when you play the records you referred to with the sub disconnected, do you see any visible indications of woofer pumping in the main speakers? If not, it would seem likely that what is exciting the arm/cartridge resonance is not minor record...
Where to buy fuses?
Regarding Radio Shack fuses, this thread, and I believe other similar threads that can be found here, may cause you to think twice.Regards,-- Al
Where to buy fuses?
If you are not looking for expensive audiophile-oriented fuses, you'll find four choices here at Digikey (scroll down to the listings). Two are fast blow and two are slow blow, with one of the slow blows being ceramic, and the other three being gl...
The best preamp without a doubt..in my experience
Bdp24, re your question, arcdb.ws provides schematics for a number of older ARC preamps. It appears that in cases where the internal signal path is balanced but outputs are provided on RCA as well as XLR connectors, the Ref 2 being an example (cli...
Need recommendations on phono amp upgrade
Viva Fono ~$6k from Europe (60 dB gain may not be enough in my system)An important point to keep in mind is that phono stage noise levels don't always correlate well with the gains they provide. Assuming the Underwood mods that were performed on y...
Stan Ricker...R.I.P.
Very sad news, Mofi, but thanks for letting us know. I'll have to play an early Telarc LP in his memory.Best regards,-- Al
Some Musical Truths
Thanks John (Roxy54). Taking into account both performance and sonics, I would suggest Chesky CD19, which is a CD remastering of a 1962(!) recording of Jascha Horenstein conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. It is out of print, but as you'll s...
Some Musical Truths
John (Roxy54), I agree, except that some of the examples cited in the OP leave me uncertain as to whether the introductory sentences in his post were said tongue-in-cheek, or not. And that his intent therefore may have been to inspire the kinds of...
Recommendations for a Analog to Digital Converter
Peter, no, I suspect that what you've read was a misinterpretation of the specs on page 31 of the manual. The person writing those statements probably didn't notice that the recording time specs are **per gigaByte**, and the DA-3000 can utilize SD...
Cambridge Audio Azur 851N
I do fair amount of streaming off Spotify and Amazon and got lot of music stored on my FAT32 USB drive.Keep in mind that FAT32 is not a robust file system. For example, although it is unlikely you could lose all of the data on the drive if power w...
Your ONE all time favorite love song?
I've already voted in this thread for a couple of favorites of mine, on 10-21-09 and 7-20-14. So I'll now take some liberties and name a song which is not one of my favorite love songs, and which I neither particularly like nor particularly dislik...
REL Subwoofers, Class D Amps and Neutrik Cables.
Kijanki, thanks. Your expertise on Class D is always valuable.Rick, as a point of information REL usually recommends that if a single sub is being connected to monoblock amps it is usually best to connect the black wire to a ground point on the pr...
Anybody else doing this ?
I agree with Lew that doing what you describe is very unlikely to cause any negative sonic effects. It can be inferred from John Atkinson's output impedance measurements, described in the second paragraph here, that in contrast to some designs the...
REL Subwoofers, Class D Amps and Neutrik Cables.
My experience is with IcePower based amps, specifically ones using the ASP series Ice modules. These modules have 40 VDC on their speaker output terminals in relation to amplifier ground....I was not aware of that. If that is the case with your Pe...
REL Subwoofers, Class D Amps and Neutrik Cables.
I don't know what "caps on the black wire" may refer to in this case. But an approach that should work fine is to obtain a simple RCA plug, perhaps at Radio Shack, solder the black wire to the ground sleeve connection point of the plug, while leav...
