XLR and DBS (Audioquest)
Bob, for Atmasphere's comments about insensitivity to XLR cable differences to be applicable, the components being connected, especially the component which is driving the cable, have to meet certain criteria he has described.  His designs meet th...
Is it safe to use XLR cable to connect single ended source with single ended amp?
That should work ok, Ghosthouse. To be completely certain, though, use your multimeter (I seem to recall that you have one) to make the following measurements before installing the cable and adapters in the system:With the adapters attached to t...
Tekton Double Impacts
Lpretiring, is the Truth that you have what is described on the page I linked to above?  If so, its very low output impedance would make any reasonable load impedance (i.e., amplifier input impedance) a non-issue.  Impedance compatibility issues, ...
Tekton Double Impacts
Hi Charles,IMO a preamp having an active output stage but providing no gain should not be referred to as a passive preamp, but as you know terminology is often applied with varying degrees of looseness. And btw, I would infer from the page I linked...
Tekton Double Impacts
P.S. to my previous post: If the following page corresponds to your Truth preamp, it has an active output stage which in terms of impedance should have no problem driving pretty much anything.http://www.thehornshoppe.com/the_truth_pre_amp.htmlGood...
Tekton Double Impacts
Lpretiring, if the specs on the 2A3 amp you would be purchasing correspond to those of the 3.5 watt SET amp described in this Triode Lab datasheet (which is indicated as providing 4 ohm output taps), it can be calculated from the 3.5 watt power ca...
Fuses fuses fuses
Excellent, erudite, and IMO entirely correct post, Terry.  Kudos!Best regards,-- Al
Fuses fuses fuses
Geoffkait 7-20-2017 Of course, the real interesting thing in the fuse measurements was that listening tests correlated to measurements, i.e., the best sounding directional was ALWAYS the direction with least resistance. A question:  Where do y...
Fuses fuses fuses
Geoffkait 7-19-2017 However, there is no difference in the data sheets for resistance more than about 0.5%. Thus, your interpretation makes no sense, even allowing for language differences. You could be pulling my leg. Is this a lawyer trick? 😀 I ...
Fuses fuses fuses
Geoffkait 7-19-2017... as I already pointed out, ALL measured differences were about an order of magnitude less than 5%. NONE were anywhere near 5% so YOUR INTERPRETATION MAKES NO SENSE. If things were as you say then they could have said "in the ...
Fuses fuses fuses
Tim, see Atmasphere's posts in this thread dated 7-13-2017 and 7-14-2017.Best regards,-- Al
Fuses fuses fuses
Geoff, regarding your question just above, in one of my posts here yesterday I had quoted the following statement I made in an earlier fuse-related discussion: ... all or nearly all of the directional differences in resistance were vastly small...
Fuses fuses fuses
Thanks, Ralph (Atmasphere). I’ve been assuming that the "m" in the HFT paper stands for "milli." If in fact it stands for "micro" then the 0.000038 ohm figure that has been cited to illustrate how miniscule the differences are in their measurement...
Tekton Double Impacts
Hi Bill (Grannyring),My post attempts to explain how the DI/MicroZOTL combo can produce **peak** volumes approaching 100 db at typical listening distances, as has been reported here. Most listeners, of course, do not listen at average volume level...
Tekton Double Impacts
Porscheracer, if you haven’t seen it already I would recommend that you take a look at a post I provided in this thread on 4-16-2017, in which I attempted to explain how the DI/MicroZOTL combo can provide SPLs approaching 100 db at typical listeni...
