"Concealed Damage" and FedEx Claims
You may want to contact the CD player manufacturer to ask whether the player and it's factory shipping container were formally tested and if so what standards they passed. You can them compare those results against FedEx standards to see whose are...
Upgraded AC outlets
20 amp outlet requires a 20 amp breaker and a minimum wire size of 12 gage. Your 10 gage is larger than the required 12 gage.
How much for two 20A lines?
10/2 Romex? The point of isolated ground recepticles is to seperate the recepticle ground pin away from the yoke (mounting strap) and the metal box (if used). Would have expected to see 10/3 with ground Romex in this situation. Green tape over red...
My Levinson doesn't like the juice
Since you are trying to lower the operating voltage to keep the integrated happy how about putting a higher wattage (but non-noisey) load such as a 600 watt space heater on the line suppling the power to the amp. As an alternative you might also t...
Auctions - why bid early?
On an item I want, but is nearing my max, I oftentimes place a bid in hope that other sellors see there are additional buyers out there. Often times I'm able to win at a lower price on the next listing.
Power Conditioner deleterious to digital sources?
Benny: How much power is the conditioner capable of providing? Did you exceed it with both preamp and CDP loading it? Possibly your CDP needs it's own seperate source, so as to not feedback digital "noise" into the preamp. Listing your preamp and ...
I can't really hear a big difference
DTM, Bomarc makes a very valid point in that output levels need to match to make an accurate comparison. If you have access to an inexpensive (Radio Shack) sound meter try adjusting the volume of the Sherwood (lower) to match the BAT's. I think th...
Change needed at Audiogon
Patrick: I would support changes that increase the credibility of members involved in transactions. Personally I think your proposed email filter should offer the option of limiting inquires to verified members only. The cost of verification is mi...
Wiring a dedicated line
PI: Have you been able to do a polarility and voltage check. Your AC not working properly may be do to a low voltage condition. What is the recepticle voltage with nothing connected to it versus when the AC unit is connected? The 20 amp line that ...
What to do about ventilation duct noise???
Might want to look into some specialized sound control devices-I'm thinking stalactite shaped that could be used near the vent. Sort of an artwork-sculpture effect. You've got a difficult situation as you would need the owner of the building to ap...

What's the best location for a skylight?
In an other room. Especially if you consider problems of UV fading of veneers and fabrics. For openning units add all the delights of water infiltration. Can't imagine any sonic advantage to having them in the ceiling.Seriously consider paying for...
VTL TL2.5preamp worth buying?
Certainly worth an audition. Intoxicating mids & highs especially on string instruments. Ultimately I decided agains ownership as it had more tube rush noise (in my system) than I wanted to tolerate.
BAT VK-D5 CD Player Needed New Transport Assembly
My VK-D5 has been problem free for 4 years. Soundwise I picked it over several more $$ competitors. Enjoy!
Hissing sound from right speaker
Swap preamps output cables left to right and see if the noise changes with it. If yes, you narrowed the problem to just the preamp. Try tube replacement to further narrow the problem to the tubes (or eliminate them from the list).
