Good Cowboy Junkies "Trinity Sessions"?
I have the original LP of this, plus the RCA BMG of "the Caution Horses," and a promo copy of "Misguided Angel." This last LP is only five cuts, containing the live recording at Church of Holy Trinity in Toronto (1987) and Misguided Angel live ver...
Calling all Recording Engineers
Frap, good to hear from a man that appreciates art. Thank you.
tube pre-amp modification for HT?
For what it is worth, I would accept the advise given by Jctubes. I use my tube preamp exactly the way he suggests, and get excellent home theater results. You may consider too, that modifications to your unit will most likely void the warranty.
Point of Diminishing Returns?
My sincere thanks to all of you for your support. It is odd that someone would vote negative solely based on my choice of equipment. A more constructive approach would be for them to post in opposition, allowing everyone to consider their point of...
Calling all Recording Engineers
While I am certainly no recording engineer, I think the answer is "simpler is better." The recordings that you refer to are among the best that I have too. Fantasy, which includes Contemporary, Galaxy, Pablo, and Riverside all had a very direct ap...
Point of Diminishing Returns?
I received minus votes for expressing a positive opinion about the Sony 9000 ES. Did any of the rest of you get punished for suggesting that option to Once bitten, the creator of this posting?
Music trivia anyone?
Looks like Undertaker4 has the answer Sedond. My data was from a web site called "into the 80's", where I was looking for Stevie Ray Vaughn info. Either the data for SRV was published at the site, and then the contract dispute happened (and never ...
Check this out...you might implode.
Sub Horn? Doesn't sub mean below? If this is the "below" model, I would hate to see the "top" one. I suppose the "top" one could be used to park your Ford Excursion in, with space to spare for your personal woodworking shop.
Point of Diminishing Returns?
What has been suggested here by others is exactly what I did. My previous player was the same as yours, a Sony DVP 7700. I managed to sell mine for $750.00, and bought the Sony 9000ES for $1050. This $300. upgrade was the best investment I have ev...
"Tweaks" vs. Audiophiles
When I began this hobby, I was a avid specification reader. I allowed my amplifier and speaker decisions to be biased by the manufacturer's performance data. Confusion came when the numbers seemed to be out of line with what sounded good. Now I am...
Music trivia anyone?
The Glass Spider tour featured Stevie Ray Vaughn, and also correct about Rod Stewart, guess his were not clean and was just looking to cover himself, right? Here is another obscure one, what famous female 80's rocker did the intro music for Pee Wee...
Music trivia anyone?
OK, since no one wants to guess which famous rock star likes ladies undies, here is a tough one. Who played lead guitar for David Bowie on his Glass Spider Tour? This guitar player later formed his own band and is one of my all time favorites.
Area 51 Cables and Interconnects
Are these the same wires used in those unpleasant "probes" that people report?
Be consistent with brand?
Sugarbrie, I have done essentially what you describe. My phono, preamp, speakers and amplifiers do contain the same wire I choose for speaker cable and interconnect. There are hundreds of feet of wire in every stereo system that remains unaccessib...
Counterpoint SA-11, worthy looking for?
I agree with Tubegroover. The SA 11 was my reference preamp until about a year before Counterpoint went under. This is an extremely good unit, with tonal balance in between the ARC Ref 2 and the ART. Considering it's age, I would ask Mike Elliott ...
