55” or 65” TV Screen Size and Your Speakers: Please Join Survey
revel’s 226be is a nice sounding slender speaker if you ever wanted more room but I think they lack dynamics/snap next to a good horn. I would keep the horn and rock the phantom center. I watch a lot of vintage BDs from the 50s through the 70s....

Bigger=better every time. NAFTA hasn’t really changed my TV viewing habits. Don’t mean to rant, but yes, I sure can thank NAFTA legislators, the transnational investor elites they serve and conspirators like these bums for driving up the cost ...

Thanks guys for the great feedback, though things aren’t good with a second look at the numbers. James’ room looks at least 50% bigger than mine, here on obscenely overpopulated, overtaxed Long Island, where the price of living space is equally ob...
List of most high end analog active crossovers ever made.
The B4 is unbelievably versatile: high-pass and low-pass 1st/2nd/3rd/4th-order filters in 25Hz increments from 25Hz to 6375Hz. All discrete (Toshiba Jfets), no opamps or IC’s. I have three speakers and would leave the tweeter passively crossed....
Best Sounding L/R Speakers for DVD/BD Movie Sound? > $4K/pair
Speakers from Harman are real easy to listen to due to them having a drop of about 5db from bass to treble. They are detailed still but just an easy listen. I had a pair of 228be and while not by favorite speaker I owned they were outstanding for...
Best Sounding L/R Speakers for DVD/BD Movie Sound? > $4K/pair
They are great speakers and very faithfully reproduce whatever is on the disk. Okay, but as I pointed out movie audio quality like the BD Edition of North by Northwest may comprise perhaps only 25% of my collection. So such speakers might disap...
Best Sounding L/R Speakers for DVD/BD Movie Sound? > $4K/pair
You risk really hating these movies even more with a better system as it will really highlight bad post production.. No doubt, especially with horn speakers using beryllium drivers, like these I’ll be building to play my good music recordings; ...
Review: Ming Da MC-2A3 Tube preamp
Please share opinions on Cary SLP-05 preamp. And please recommend the top three to five 6SN7/2A3 tube preamps for ~ $3.5K -phono stage not required. Must have at least 5V output to drive my First Watt F4 amp to power my 93db speakers. And ...
Don Sachs Owners Thread
I was so lucky to have purchased the DS2 preamp back in February, but it won't be in use to drive my First Watt F4 amp until my speakers are finished. https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650073006-don-sachs-ds2-tube-preamp/images/4929521/  Meanwh...
Solid State Low powered Amplifiers
How does it sound compared to regular Class AB amps? Specs show this. No caps. Could be a fun little test amp, more if it can hold one’s attention. Here’s a user review. https://db.audioasylum.com/mhtml/m.html?forum=amp&n=249357&highlig...
Regarding Quoting someone on the forums
Sorry, but i have to say it: This forum has THE most idiotic format for quoting the text of members and then, however haphazardly, reply to them. Name one other forum audio technology forum with functionality anywhere near this absurd. I still can...
Okto DAC 8 Stereo (Shout-out)
Any DACs in the $3K to $5K price range which any have actually heard which seriously beats the Okto in soundstage size, imaging, tonality and across most other parameters?
Short list of musical subwoofers
My big problem is that my otherwise wonderful custom built speakers only go down to 70Hz. So, which if any of these subs would make the audio sound the least colored or incoherent with having to cross the high up?
A quick question related to Amperex Bugle Boys
Assuming that this can be considered a high price for a dual triode (stereo) preamp tube relative to its NOS availability, when might someone attempt to perfectly clone this Amperex tube? https://tubedepot.com/products/amperex-bugle-boy-ecc83-1...
which 6sn7 gives the most air??
I’ve used that Dehavilland/Chimera list as a guide and found the results spot on, although not complete. The VT-231 Tung-Sol, round black plates have it all, air, dynamics, 3D image, and a premium price. As stated above, Sylvanias are neutral w...
