Preamp Deal of the Century
My Chenin just arrived today! Got the call from my wife that the box is waiting for me at home - now how can I skip out of work early...I feel like a kid at Christmas!
Anyone Compared the Olive Opus to the Zero One?
Yikes! Just read the Audiocircle thread, and I think I'll wait a bit for this technology to mature...
My Supratek Chenin is Shipping Monday
Wow, all these positive reviews are making me more and more impatient. I'll be sure to post my customs experiences once I get it!
Anyone Compared the Olive Opus to the Zero One?
How does the playback from the Olive HD sound compared to direct from the CD: better, same, or worse? I have heard claims that HD playback can sound better than CD.
My Supratek Chenin is Shipping Monday
Isn't that a little risky in these days of identity theft, since anyone who looks at the manifest would then have my name, address, phone number, and SS# ready at hand?

Denon DL-301
The 103 is for low mass, the 301 is for higher mass. Did you try them both on the same tonearm? - if so, that's not a fair comparison, since only one would be of the correct type for your system.
Have you tried Red Wine?
The Moles are class D switching amps, run at a very high frequency. As I did the mods, I listened intently for changes at each step. The BG caps extended the high frequencies, making them sound even brighter, but when I added the Multicaps to the ...
Have you tried Red Wine?
I run the Druids with Flying Mole class-D monoblocks (100wpc). I love the sound - very clear, very low noise, slamming bass. I've modded the Moles with BG input coupling caps, Multicap PP output caps (it's the only film cap I could get to fit easi...
Sound traps/acoustic panels to improve the sound
If you did want to look into bass absorption, take a look at the StandTraps or SoffittTraps by Real Traps (www.realtraps.com).According to their tech data, these are traps that actually do absorb low bass notes and leave the mids and highs pretty ...
Class T vs. Class D Digital Amps
I have Flying Mole class D amps and really like the sound of them combined with my Zu Druids. I have done a few mods to them, which improved the sound, but I think they sound pretty good stock as well. I have a Supratek Chenin preamp on order to g...
Polypropylene as a Turntable Base Material
Thom, My sanity has long ago been compromised, when I think I'm "on to something" I'm borderline OCD (OK full blown OCD). That's one of the traits that has made me pretty successful in science, to the exclusion of some other things - there's certa...
Polypropylene as a Turntable Base Material
For those who would like to explore acoustic impedance matching in the design of their systems, here are some very useful tables of acoustic properties (Z is the acoustic impedance). Remember, the farther apart the impedances, the more acoustical ...
Polypropylene as a Turntable Base Material
Thom, first of all, thanks. That was one of the most useful responses I've ever gotten on a discussion board. I don't know why this didn't strike me earlier, but a few years ago I was involved in some research with a major US National Lab centerin...
Polypropylene as a Turntable Base Material
I think what I'll do is use the PP as a base without cones, so that it just lays flat on the shelf, with the motor attached to it. Then I'll spike the subchassis (which contains the platter and tonearm) around the platter recess and simply lower i...
