Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil I'm curious to hear your opinion of the Jensens, and I may want to move to them in the midrange of my Infinity speakers to build on the tonality of the CAST in the preamp. I am getting very addicted to the fuller midrange sound of the CAST as comp...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil I received the CAST 0.56uF caps for my preamp and installed them last night, then spent about 4 hours listening. The main difference between the CAST and the Mundorf Supremes I was using is in tonal balance. The CAST has more rounded and fuller mi...
Pioneer CS-99a Speakers The CS-99a has cloth surrounds, so no worry about deteriorating foam there.I had a pair and sold them. For a 15" driver, their bass is surprisingly weak, most likely due to the too-small box they are in. I did like the craftsmanship very much, how...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil That's what I've heard about Duelunds, and I fully intend to try the Duelunds out. I was just asking a technical question of Duelund, I hope I didn't insult them. I'm just curious about how/why a carbon-based resistor can sound so good when carbon...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil From what I read, carbon composition resistors are the noisiest type - how does the Duelund resistor differ from an old carbon comp type, and why would this sound better than a bulk metal film? Is it because the graphite is not present as separate...
Preamp Deal of the Century I have found that the Zu Varial interconnects and Zu Ibis speaker cables work very well with my Chenin. I have no glare whatsoever, but my Chenin is modded to use 2C22 tubes instead of the often microphonic 6SN7. The 2C22s have no detectable micro...
Preamp Deal of the Century I'm planning to stick some self-adhesive sheets of Soundcoat on the bottom plate of my Chenin main unit and power supply while I have them open to do other upgrades. The plate is a bit flimsy. I figure what the hell, it can't hurt!
Looking for a Great Sounding Outdoor Speaker Didn't get either yet. I'm still debating. I would get the Mirages but the mounting scheme doesn't work well for my space - I'd need to attach additional mounting blocks for them (a no-no with the wife). I'm leaning to the Def Techs because they w...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil By the way, there are no coupling caps in my source (Zero One Mercury CD/HD player) or amps (Gilmore Raptor monoblocks), so the ones in my preamp are the sum total of coupling caps in the system. I'm hoping for a big impact from the Duelunds becau...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil Well, I just took the plunge and ordered two Duelund 0.56uF 200V Cast Copper Foil caps for my Supratek Chenin tube preamp. I have extensively modded this preamp, moving from 6SN7 output tubes to 2C22, going from resistor/cap bias to diode bias wit...
Preamp Deal of the Century CCS update:I installed the cascoded CCS in my Chenin and experimented to find the best settings. I have found that 15mA plate current sounds optimal, with 3.45V cathode bias. Incredibly clean, clear and lifelike. Plate voltage is ~175V at idle.
Best Super-Tweek You Possibly Ever Did Since this is a Super-tweak, the best I ever did was converting my Supratek Chenin preamp from 6SN7 tubes to 2C22/7193 tubes, with a constant current source on the plates and Cree SiC Schottky diodes on the cathodes for bias. An unbelievable impro...
Looking for a Great Sounding Outdoor Speaker Lookisjohnson,The Mirage Oasis Omni 6 is looking pretty good to me. Excellent online reviews, 360 degree dispersion, watertight. I think these are in the lead right now, followed by the Def Techs.
Looking for a Great Sounding Outdoor Speaker Thanks for the suggestions. I have also seen some good reviews of Boston Acoutics outdoor speakers. Time for some further digging.
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil So, is it necessary to use the 630V Cast in electronics if the voltage will only be ~150V or so. I'm thinking that in a preamp one might be able to use the less expensive and more compact 200V CAST. Is that off base? |
