How Science Got Sound Wrong
I don't think the assertions about timing resolution are remotely accurate. An alternate perspective: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/a-warning-there-is-a-new-web-article-going-aroud-that-is-a-crock-of-schmidt.9511/
Imaging and the first violin(s)
I've started closing my eyes and listening for this in concert venues, which I never did before.  It is there.  The violins play at high frequency and volume directly into stage left or a little beyond. You get reflections. Then there are those dra...
Harbeth Super HL5+...thoughts
@avanti1960  Yeah, I have some tape down on the floor where I found the spot.  They still sound pretty good when they get moved around a bit, but it comes together really nicely when I get it back on the tape.I spend more time listening since I go...
Harbeth Super HL5+...thoughts
@oregonpapa have you had a chance to compare the SHL5+ to the 40.2?  I haven’t. I’d be curious to know what people think. I don’t lack bass with the 5s, so I wonder what other differences might be in evidence.
NAS for audiophlie?
I have used a qnap for 4 years now. It has been reliable and the web access software is easy to manage. A variety of server software can be installed by clicking on icons in the interface. Minimserver and Plex are both available this way, and it a...
PS Audio Gain Cell pre/DAC or C-J Premier 14
The PS Audio DACs all have relatively high noise and distortion. It appears to be a deliberate design decision. Here are some measurements.

How to A/B Test Power Cables & Interconnects?
I’m not hiding behind anything. I don’t hear differences between interconnects, speaker cables, and most amps. Or rather when I’ve sat down and done *immediate comparisons* the differences aren’t there. In that sense, I’m like....everyone else, ap...
How to A/B Test Power Cables & Interconnects?
Fast switching is far more revealing than long term tests; auditory memory is less reliable as time goes by. Here’s a good synopsis of a paper on the subject: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/aes-paper-digest-sensitivity-...
Classical Music for Aficionados
I saw Yuja Wang at Geffen Hall last winter, filling in for Pollini, who called in sick. She is an amazing technician. I have to say, she is definitely selling the outfits, the bravura showmanship, and the extra-low yoga bow at the end. I think tha...
Are there specific NAS requirements for streaming?
Hmm.  If you are keeping the Mac mini in the chain, that, of course will work fine.  Plug it's USB out into the CA and you are good to go. As long as the Mac can see the NAS, you are fine. It should recognize the CA.  Macs are good that way.If you...
Primaluna Prologue or Primaluna Dialogue Preamp?
Alan Shaw dissects a Primaluna amp's measurements here.   https://www.harbeth.co.uk/usergroup/threads/tube-amp-for-harbeth-shl5-minimum-power.77411/page-7#post-80254
Different systems playing same music simultaneously
This is pretty easy with Chromecast groups. The Creation 5 control point also does it with diverse renderers, but Chromecast is much more reliable.
Whats playing on your system today?
Sibelius, two pieces for Cello and Orchestra. Jazzmeia Horn before that. Bantock Cello sonatas before that (lovely Dutton recording)
Are there specific NAS requirements for streaming?
I use a qnap in one home, and a Synology in another. I've had zero problems. I'd give the edge to the qnap in terms of ease of use, but they both make it incredibly easy to install Plex or Minimserver music server software as "apps" and then with ...
