The ”sweetspot” in the Nordost line of cables
What do you guys think about the Norse 2 line specifically for power cables? I have the Heimdall 2 but don’t know how much better the Frey/Tyr 2 can get.   My previous Nordost PC frame of reference was the Brahma and Shiva lines, but they are we...
So, I listened to a $1Million Dollar System
It's the speakers. The ultra high end speakers have like 17 drivers in them and not even a 1000w mega amp can drive them properly. Imagine trying to design a coherent crossover for such a multi driver array, with many of those drivers housed in 4...
Chord Dave and lInear power supply
Everything said here about upgrading an SMPS to LPS has been my exact experience. It gives a huge performance boost for comparatively little outlay. If you have a component that accepts external SMPS input, then try out the Farad or something lik...
What Gear Has Disappointed You?
Bryston amplification up to the SST range. I extensively auditioned them (in the ought’s) on 3 vastly different types of speakers (from Sonus Faber to Focal) at different dealers. The Bryston signature came through on all of them- thin, harsh, fat...
DAC Merry Go 'Round- why I stopped at Weiss
Thanks Jimmy for your informative DAC comparisons. What is the digital volume control like on this? For me its always got to be a one box DAC/Pre straight to amp, so that is important. There is also a new ESS Sabre upgrade to this DAC so perhaps...
Figure 8 ('Infinity') Power cord
Nordost Purple Flare is a dedicated C7 (figure 8) and it's very good. Nordost Heimdall 2 is also C7 and even better, but it's a 3 core power cable from the normal range, and its ground wire is just connected at the AC connector end only. Audioque...
Recommendations for HDMI cables specifically for audio quality
Have you actually compared these cables side by side in your own system? I would not take the word of the manufacturer on statements like this. Anyways, I’m happy with my cables. HDMI cables is not the only cable I have tested with, so I don’t f...
Dedicated 20 Amp Line for Audio
@lancelock Yeah I noticed that, will be specific with the electrician to follow orders. Also apparently the drain wire should be connected to earth at only the fuse box end.
Dedicated 20 Amp Line for Audio
@lancelock I just got some of the new LC-Y EVO cable from Gigawatt to upgrade the dedicated line. Cannot wait to hear what its like compared to stock.
Recommendations for HDMI cables specifically for audio quality
The Mapleshade Vivlink 3 Plus is also the only HDMI cable to bring what I consider a noticeable improvement in video quality (even on gaming consoles, not just blu-ray), something that is non-existent or very subtle in other high end HDMI cables. ...
Recommendations for HDMI cables specifically for audio quality
That being said, anytime somebody says something like this, I have to bite my tongue on my response. @auxinput Continue biting your tongue! The Mapleshade cable is not like the Nordost or Wireworld, where things get better simply due to large...
EVS Music Purifier
Don't use both at the same time. I only like the music purifiers, on the speaker terminals.
Recommendations for HDMI cables specifically for audio quality
@soix I agree and wished they did a 1m. I asked them multiple times about this and they insisted they will only do 2m. But according to @auxinput he says to not get under 2m, and he seems to have done a lot of testing of these cables.
Recommendations for HDMI cables specifically for audio quality
The Mapleshade Vivlink v3 Plus will leave almost all competing HDMI cables in the dust for only $240 USD. Look up who the engineer was that designed it. The only negative is the fragile construction, like all Mapleshade products (this is by desig...
GR Research Power Cables
@fleschler You said at Grover they found an all copper plug that sounded best. I too found the same thing- that pure copper plugs sounded best, even better than gold plated. But the cheaper ones can tarnish over time, that is the main issue with t...
