Tidal Speakers owners
Looks like they were in a fairly large room and placed about 6 feet out from the back wall and 4 feet out from the side walls and about 7 feet apart - must of sounded real nice. I heard them at RMAF in a smaller room and was quite taken with their...
Notable speakers at THE SHOW June 2011
I also liked the Marten Coltrane speakers. They were exceptional. I also thoroughly enjoyed the TAD Reference Speakers and the MBL 101E II speakers. A very enjoyable show. Hope they do it again next year.
Tube Research Labs Latest Dude Preamp
Anyone know the price of the new dude?
Single box tube linestage preamp - $3,000 used
A used AudioValve Eklipse can be had for your price. Check out the reviews and do some research. Its also one of the best looking components you'll find. Good luck in your search.
Tidal Speakers owners
I was at RMAF on Friday and Saturday and thought that the Tidal room was one of the most musical rooms there. Many of the other exhibitors seemed to overpower their rooms or their speakers were, as one commentator has stated, "too aggressive" on t...
Audio Research LS15
For that amount of money ($2800), I'd look into getting an Audio Valve Eclipse. I upgraded from an LS15 to an Eclipse and the improvement was huge. There is currently one available with an asking price of $2900 and another up for auction (ending t...
Audio Research LS15
I owned an LS15 for over 5 years and agree with Eee3 that the price should be around $1300 to $1500. It produces an excellent soundstage but really needs to have premium NOS tubes to sound its best. I splurged for some NOS Amperex 7308 white label...
If money were no object, what would be in your rig
Dedicated and professionally designed listening room with all the bells and whistles (dedicated lines, room treatments, Oyaide R-1 wall outlets...). Top line amp and pre-amp from a manufacturer such as Tidal or Soulution or comparable quality comp...
Which cost more: your system or your car?
Presently - my system as my car is a '97 Accord with 200+k miles which has allowed me to upgrade my audio system over time. I am now looking for another car so it may become a toss up.
audio valve eklipse or aesthetix calypso
Not too long ago I read Teajay's review of the Audio Valve Eklipse and ended up purchasing one. Its an outstanding very musical pre-amp. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and, not only does the pre-amp deliver the goods sonically, but its als...
Power cable management
I am doing pretty much the same thing as Tbg. The only difference is that I use pvc plumbing pieces to lift the cables and where the cables do come into contact with one another I use a cotton ball to seperate them. I don't know if it improves the...
vintage tuner: McIntosh or Sansui?
At that price range you could also look into a Meridian 504 - very sleek looking and very musical and also many years newer than the ones you listed.
Levinson 335 or Parasound JC 1's
I just replaced my Levinson 334 with the JC-1s. While I really enjoyed the 334, the JC-1s were clearly an improvement in my system which inlcuded an ARC LS15 pre-amp. Of course, given my speakers (Magnepan 3.6s) the added power of the JC-1s was ne...
Which One Amp for the Magnepan 3.6's?
About a month ago I picked up a used pair of JC-1s for my 3.6s. They replaced a Levinson 334 that worked quite well in my system. The added power of the JC-1s added a lot more control to the maggies - they played effortlessly, the bass was tighter...
Moby concert and ear damage?
After having the misfortune of being in the front row of a "concert in the round" with a bank of speakers less than 10 feet in front of me, my ears rang/buzzed for 3 days. I'm sure it did some minor lasting damage. The band was "Whitesnake" which ...
