Speakers for Classical Music Even listening to classical music there is a significant amount of personal preference that goes into your decision. While we can give you advice, you really have to hear the speaker for yourself. I have listened to classical music on so many syst...
why are wilson speakers so highly regaurded. They do use the more expensive Focal Drivers "Audiom" series. This doesn't account for their price. I personally think they are overpriced for their performance, but there are a lot of people who disagree with me (some 400 X-1 owners most likely).
what dvd player with progressive scan? I own the 9000es--it is the best picture quality I have seen thus far. Of course, I haven't seen everthing--like the new Sony you mentioned. I did have a Pioneer Elite player and the Sony was clearly much better, but the Elite was a previous gener...
Walking that fine line: What would you do ? Sean:I've had the same experience. It has changed my listening practices. There are some albums I simply can not enjoy on my main system. I like the material (composition), but the engineers turned a few too many dials--added too many effects--and...
Wall Mounted turntable stand: suggestions please? I made my own for a TNT. I used oak and mounted it to the studs in the wall. In my case the equipment rack is also in the wall, so the oak goes through and mounts to the cabinet (which is in an adjacent utility room). I then got a piece of granite...
Which tubes is better. Siemens or Telefunken? I've used Siemens and Telefunken, but for different applications. Both were excellent. The Siemens was ECC88. I spent quite a bit on these tubes, but the improvement was by far one of the most cost effective improvements I've made in the system in...
CAN Bi-Amping been done Correctly? Mark:The answer is yes, it can be done. You will need an active crossover and need to bi-pass the internal cross-over of your MLs when using two different types of amps. Undoubtedly the gain will be different. I have a pair of ML monolith IIs whic...
Suggestions for bare wood floor resonance control There was a previous post, similar to this, but I'm not exactly sure how you would find it. One suggestion was putting granite slabs on the floor beneath the speakers. That will reduce the play. If the floor is in the basement, you could go into t...
How To Burn CD's So It Will Play In Sony DVPS9000? I have the same player. If you look on page 7 of the manual it states it cannot play CD-Rs. I have been told that it will play Sony CD-RWs, but have never tried it. I sent an e-mail to Sony's technical support to find out what media (including bra...
Favorite HT demo scene from a movie? Glen, found it--thanks. Is it the same movie--Mario Andretti or is it something entirely different--with Paul Newman's racing team? I guess I'll know soon enough.
Best speakers for a small room? 10'X14' I like Totem--but would have recommended the Arro. Another option might be one of the smaller Martin Logan's (older model used). The one smaller than the SL3 (or sequel), whose name escapes me now.
Favorite HT demo scene from a movie? There seems to be some confusion on Super Speedway (IMAX). I own this. It is about Formula 1 racing, but is not about Paul Newman's team, rather Mario Andretti and his son Michael. It's also not DTS. I checked the DTS site to see if there has been...
The best way to shield components from each other? There is a material called TI shielding. You can get it from Percy Audio.http://www.bainbridge.net/percyaudio/I've used it between components (particularly my tube phono stage which is highly susceptible to noise and interference). It works well. ...
equipment sound bad? I also agree with Sean. We have an audiophile society where I live. We go to each other's homes and bring our own music and listen. All of us have expensive ($50k and up) and well designed systems. Most of us have dedicated or simi dedicated liste...
How hard is it to admit you bought bad gear? I've been fortunate that I don't think it's happened to me except for a very few times. Twice was with cables. They just didn't work for me--they might have been snake oil, or perhaps it was just system synergy. Once was with new cables, which I r... |
