Power requirement for ADS L-1290? Also,90db @ 8ohms is actually quite efficient. But I agree that they would do better with at least 100wpc or more. I dont know about the impedance dips as I have never seen them measured. Perhaps someone else can comment.
Power requirement for ADS L-1290? I am running these with a McIntosh MC-275 amp and they seem to do fine. DO NOT BIWIRE these speakers. They can only be actively bi-amped (with an external crossover). The bi-amp switch in the back disables the crossover network between the woofers...
DAC for all tube 2 channel set up? Thanks for all the good suggestions. I will let you know how it goes.
DAC for all tube 2 channel set up? Thanks for the good notes. My system comprises of a McIntosh C2300 tube pre amp and a MC275 tube amp. I love my vinyl and I also love some of my CDs that are being played through an Arcam DV79. I wouldn't say Mc gear is as "tubey" sounding as most...
Classic McIntosh tube amp or new other brand why not get a modern McIntosh tube amp? The MC275 is an excellent tube amp and can often be found here on the 'gon used all day long. I have one I purchased from audio classics and cant be any happier. You get the mac tube sound coupled with moder...
XLR Connector Comparison Holy markups Batman! I am looking for some XLR ideas for a DIY cable and I checked out those Bochinno's whick looked excellent until I saw the tag on them! I mean triple digits on a set of copper spades! Last I checked, copper was not that rare no...
Phono Preamp Recommendation Before you toss tubes to the wolves, have you tried the Wright Sound WPP-200C? Gain is adjustable on the preamp and works very nicely with medium output MC. You can get one for under 1K new and save your change towards some good vinyl instead.I cu...
Bi-amping ADS L-1590 or L-1290 Thanks for all the imput. I may experiment down the road when I replace my integrated amp with a seperate pre and amp as I cannot hook an external crossover network to that as of now. They are great sounding speakers nonetheless and mighty enough ...
Tube amps vs solid state for large speakers Thanks for all your responses. It seems that my speakers are efficient enough to run with lower wattage amps from what I am gathering here. Anyone have any experience with the AES Monoblocs? I saw a couple on the gon here recently and they seem in...
Bi-amping ADS L-1590 or L-1290 I may try bi-amping w/out the crossover just for the heck of it until I can pick up an external one. However, dont you risk damaging the speakers or at least ruining the sound by sending the full frequency to all the speakers? From what I gather, ...
Tube amps vs solid state for large speakers Heres the specs I could dig up for the 1290's which are similar speakers just a bit smaller:Impedence: 8 ohms nominalEfficiency: 90 dB SPL from 2.8 VRMS.They can be bi-amped but need to be done so with an external crossover. If I could figure out ...
Best Option For Audio Cable: Toslink, Dig. Rca,Etc I use analog cables for music and digital cables for Movies/TV. Theres arguments galore for using Digi over Optical or vice versa, but in the end its just sending 1's and 0's. I think either way you are fine.
Any audiophile grade optical cables? I'm no scientist, but I don't think that you need very expensive cables for optical applications. You are just transmitting 1's and 0's. Check out lifatec for optical cables. They are made here in the good ol USA and they are experts in fiber tech...
When to replace cartridge or stylus? I listen to mostly jazz and to me the cart still sounds very good. I put about 1.9g of force on it. I will just have to keep my ears open for degradation. Thanks for the info all.
Are interconnect cables worth $15,000? I would say definitely, that is if you listen to music in a dust and noise free perfectly acoustic vacuum and only spin a record once before tossing it in the trash....and of course, you maybe run a hedge fund and just have lots of cash sitting ar... |
