VPI Classic platter - is center milled?
Reprince, Not really if it's upside down or not. I will call the factory and get back to you.
VPI Classic platter - is center milled?
I mentioned his communication to you BRF. At first he said it was recessed, I said mine was raised 2 mm in center. He then said, correct. It is raised.?.Second stringreen to decide the win here. It's getting exciting.
VPI Classic platter - is center milled?
Brf: I just spoke with Jack at VPI. He stated that the center portion of the classic platter is raised (he went back and checked). Maybe there is some confusion because some of vpi platters are recessed?
VPI Classic platter - is center milled?
BRF: who did you talk with at VPI?
E.A.R 834p. VS Graham Slee Reflex
Fjn: to add to the mystery. I thought the standard came with vc, but when standard mm/mc showed up, no vc. I thought vc was now standard as well; would have liked to have it, but not going to fuss with it (I should have clarified prior to purchase...
VPI Classic platter - is center milled?
Sorry, I meant center clamp. I am thinking about grabbing the outer ring clamp, I agree, I think that will resolve the warped disc.
E.A.R 834p. VS Graham Slee Reflex
Fjn04: as far as the differences bwt the two, I spoke to two different salesmen at two different companies*. One said the main difference was a shiny chrome faceplate and a few hundred bucks and absolutely nothing else. The other said it was a com...
Phono stage good for classical and jazz?
Frogman, thanks for the extensive write up. It got me thinking about system add-ons. I would like to either grab a spare pre or another cartridge to change up the sound and the Herron sounds like a good place to start. But first the Raytheon's.
VPI Classic platter - is center milled?
Correct. With no mat, there is a 2 mm gap between the platter and vinyl so no vinyl touches the platter (excluding label). I think it sounds very good (not sure what it would sound like directly on the platter); however, I do not find the ring cla...

Case of a true Analog company operating in a Digital world eh;)
Phono stage good for classical and jazz?
Thanks for the advice Frogman! I am researching the Telefunken but haven't found any NOS outside of ebay. Is there any place you recommend (not sure if you need to pm me).I was wondering about the mc/mm debate. For crude comparison, I tried the 10...
VPI Classic platter - is center milled?
Hey guys, spoke with Jack at VPI - fun dude. I am a bit embarrassed here as Jack said the platters [now] have a rise in the center and the TT comes with a rubber mat that absolutely must be used. I clarified that the VPI manual recommends no mat s...
E.A.R 834p. VS Graham Slee Reflex
I did not do a lot of research on the deluxe vs std. Would be interesting. From reading post, I can see how others perceive preamps which are more analytical compared to the ear now that I am listening to it. Unfortunately it's a pain in the a*s f...
Phono stage good for classical and jazz?
Just purchased an ear834 with classic 1, dv10x5. The ear does not seem to be as in favor as it once was, but I liked having a tube in the signal line. I am sure there are better units, but the options to mod the EAR down the line is appeling to me...
VPI Classic platter - is center milled?
Okay. That is odd. Instead of an inner label recession, the platter has ~ 0.5 mm uniform center label rise. It then appears VPI missed a QC check in the milling department. Coming up on 30 days of purchase. Hope this is not going to become an issu...
