The Music Room - Boulder Colorado I’ll add to the positive reviews above. I’m very happy with the several transactions I’ve had at TMR, both buying and selling. Its hard to find their exact terms for accepting consignments on their website. Their commissions are not insubstantial...
Tune of the Day The Waybacks—Daughter of a Conjugal VisitSlaw, nice selections in your recent posts.
Electrical/mechanical representation of instruments and space Thank you for the very helpful comments. Here's what I distill from the comments. The graph of a waveform with axes of frequency and amplitude can describe a sound, but it's the changes in the waveform over time that provide meaning to the sound...
Electrical/mechanical representation of instruments and space Still thinking about this. Let me give another example. Like a synthesizer, you could combine a series of pure, sinusoidal, tones in a particular combination of fundamental and overtones with varying amplitudes and fine-tune it until it sounds l...
Most annoying song, period. What, nobody has mentioned “Patches”? Who the hell thought it was a good idea to set those awful lyrics to that awful music? And “Leader of the Pack” and all of the songs about guys who take a girl to the prom only to learn that she has been dead ...

RMAF 2019 Arrival Mildly disappointed to hear Audio Research’s top gear, paired with some huge Sonus Fabers. I hadn’t seen this model before, six feet tall and obviously hundreds of pounds, like Amaris after some years of steroids. The system was tucked to the si...

Tune of the Day Greetings, Slaw! Yes, I read this thread a lot more than I post to it. So many great suggestions by others. You and BDP, for example, share a wealth of knowledge about music, musicians and recording in your posts.Given my less frequent posts, I’...

Great musicians who should have been famous except.... Speaking of Steve Gadd, I was just listening to him with Eric Gale, Richard Tee and Tony Levin, the “backup band” for Paul Simon’s “One Trick Pony”. Such an amazing unit, and Paul Simon was still writing incredible tunes then. Massively under ap...
Great musicians who should have been famous except.... Several mentions of Aja, but no credit for Bernard Purdie’s Great work on that album?
got to visit Ayre yesterday I had a similar experience at YG Acoustics, in northern Denver. I was welcomed with open arms. A full tour from owner/designer Yoav and an extended visit to their listening room. Amazing quality in the design and build of the speakers and the so...
What was your first system? When was that? Maranta 1060 integrated, later supplemented with a Marantz tuner. Sonar speakers. Gerard 1229 table and a Shure cart, can’t remember the model. No name cables, but a heavier gauge than zip cord. I’d like to hear it again. |
