Thanks Ken, and all. Appreciate the first-hand experience. Will look into one of these.
To those who've tkn Vandersteen 5A upgrade plunge
Don't get me started about the "needing the dealer to come out and set them up" business. If I had known about all that (my fault for not enough research), I would not have bought these 5's.As an aside, I have all the original packaging and live j...
To those who've tkn Vandersteen 5A upgrade plunge
As an owner of 5's, I tend to agree with Machine, if I understand his post correctly, that is. :-) And, given that I have had other components upgraded, I am not oppsed in any sense to upgrades. But, $9K+ is way too high, IMHO, though I can see wh...

Or, you could have someone else do it for you, as several others, even several others here, have done. ;-)

Passive Pre - No Regrets?
I wish there had been a thread with as much cogent discussion when I was first considering a passive. Herman makes some very excellent points, especially with resepct to why it "works" for some and not others, so I won't belabor that issue. I have...

I'm not sure what the 'overhang' reference has to do with this thread though...That makes two of us...at least.
Great tip from another forum
Thanks Sean, it will be obvious to 99 44/100ths of us that you were talking about alignment of the cantilever in the headshell with respect to the protractor grid and not overhang (position of the stylus). That is a good trick to use. On some cart...
How hot should a McCormack DNA-225 get?
I'll second that, you won't find better service anywhere than Steve's. Period. And to think that this is a McCormack of Virginia product (owned by Conrad Johnson) and Steve could just defer all issues to them.My DNA-225 runs warm, but never what I...

Fuuny how that top-drawer keeps geeting higher and higher until the bureau itself is out of one's reach! I've resoled to keep my keys, cuff links, and collar tabs on a lower shelf lest I lose access to them. ;-)

Basis Debut Gold Standard Mk V or Sota cosmiii
Yes, the origin of Trane was evident! :-) As to which specific arm, perhaps long time SOTA owners will chime in with their experience but I have HEARD the SME arms on a SOTA to good performance. Perhaps consider a SME IV and a Sumiko Celebration c...
