Devore Gibbon 3XLs: anyone have these? I believe I need to weigh back in on my original post so that no one, especially John DeVore, believes that I meant to imply that the 3XLs are better in any way than the Silverbacks, because IMHO they are not. In terms of overall musical presentat...
Devore Gibbon 3XLs: anyone have these? I do not own the 3XL's but I have heard them several times and they are terrific for such a small monitor. In my reference system I have the DeVore Fidelity Silverbacks and so am very familiar with the sound of John's speakers. The 3XL's use the sa...
Who heard the Mark levinson 53 monos? I have not heard the 53 monos but I did get to hear the earlier version. Best solid state monoblocks I have ever heard. I have since largely made the transition to tubes, but if I were going to do SS again, the amp that would tempt me the most is ...
Great 16 ohm Full Range loudspeakers Second the Altec Valencia 846A, the 16 ohm version, although the 846B (8 ohm version) is also very good. If money is not a consideration, then my first recommendation is the Shindo Latour's. Best overall speaker I have ever heard.
Tally up best preamplifier ever Shindo - The best model you can afford.
Class A watts vs Class A/B watts I too have a Bedini 25/25 and have used it with terrific results in driving a pair of Verity Fidelio Encores. I second/third/whatever the recs for auditioning the amps.
Older Altec horn speakers Paulfolbrecht stated:"I believe the 19s are generally considered superior to the Valencias."I have heard and compared these two side by side years (decades, actually) ago, and again much more recently. I would agree that the 19s are the better cho...
Older Altec horn speakers "Looking for a good horn speaker" - That said, if you can find a pair of 16-ohm Altec Valencias, that would be a gorgeous combination with proper tube amplification. And if you do get them, you likely will have sniped me in the process! ;-> Ah,...
Sonus Faber Guarneri vs Guarneri Memento I am one of the "unfortunate" ones who owns the GMs. That was said with tongue in cheek as I hardly consider myself unfortunate to own those musical gems! Never heard the GHs and so am not in a position to pick sides. Nor do I want to do so. Absol...
New Marantz SA11S2? Saxo, thanks for the quick reply. I agree with you that differences in systems can reveal some things more or less, and make some aspects of the recording more or less tolerable. I continue to be amazed by the quality of Marantz gear for the $ spent.
New Marantz SA11S2? Saxo - Could you share with us specifically what you determined to be similar between the SA112 and the Pearl, and what you liked better about the Pearl?
The $5000.00 Complete System Challenge You will get better help if you tell us a few more things - what integrated are you using, room dimensions, speakers on the short or long wall, how far apart from each other, how far from the back wall can the speakers be, how far from the speaker...
Tube Phono Stage Help A 2nd vote for the Jolida!
New Marantz SA11S2? Zear - I agree that the drive on the Ayre is relatively chip and flimsy, but I still love the sound the Ayre provides! And I got that unit at a very good discount and even was able to trade in another CD player on the deal. So $-wise I came out ni...
Obscure companies making excellent speakers? Pmshow - It would help if you would define what you mean by "a relatively modest price" . . . ! |
