Primaluna Prologue Classic Prima Luna does one thing that I can't ignore. It's the point to point wiring. Compared to practically anything else, it can last a lifetime. Also, for those companies that do use circuit boards, there are big differences in quality between one bo...
Budget hi-fi and vintage audio gear TubeHead, Thank you for suggesting the right stuff for the job. Not everything is equal out there. Same as different lubricants for mechanical parts. Gee, why do they make so many kinds? It depends on the materials being lubricated to begin with,...
adcom equipment..... I got the 6002 in yesterday. Two things stuck out immediately. First, I was right about the better damping factor helping out the bass response compared to my old tube amp. No surprise there, but I do like an accurate bass. Secondly, the amp has ...
Starting Over...Need help finding the perfect integrated to replace everything I am also moving away from Decware tubes (not the sound so much but the wattage, and damping needed). I don't know that I could stay for an all in one system though. Integrated thinking ids fine up to a point, but who knows if there is an 'all in...
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open. For the price, I wouldn't hesitate to go with Yamaha again after all those years ago. When I was struggling, I owned an inexpensive Yamaha integrated that really surprised me to be as good as it was and flexible as well. Like I have stated before...
adcom equipment..... Let's see, I mostly use CD's, so it usually starts with a Rega Apollo, then moves on to a Vincent SA-31 MK pre-amp. From there, one output goes to a NuTube headphone amp that I built and really dig. When the amp arrives (Adcom 6602) it will powe...
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open. Actually, after looking at the Harmon Kardon Citation 1 pre-amp, I noticed that all of the EQ that was mentioned about it pertained to phono, not tone controls. Yes, there are tone controls, but that is all they are. The adjustment is not flexible...
adcom equipment..... I have an Adcom amp coming in next week. It is the least expensive 6602 amp. It is a temporary amp until my main amp is finished being rebuilt (Forte' Model 3). The price was right, but I am also curious as to what my reaction might be. I didn't w...
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open. There would be a step beyond desire for the implementation of 'tone' controls, i.e. to weak a control, and nah, give me soup. Too much, but then it becomes my mother. "Do this-do that, this isn't quite right, what about another..." You see, I eith...
Does anyone care to ask an amplifier designer a technical question? My door is open. Well, that just figures, doesn't it? Living way out here in Wyoming, my chances of having a conversation about this is more than rare. Then in the last few weeks, I have an opportunity to tap into 3 different audio engineers, electronic engineer, ...
Any electronic modders here at Audiogon? Gotta admit, for the amount of effort, there is nothing like building your own set of speakers. I have been through a few of them over the years. All in all, they usually outperform my expectations, but not always. Recently, I added bass drivers...
Richard Gray Power Conditioner/UPS Maintenance. Model RGPC 400 Pro I took a look at the RGPC 400 Pro, and found that they either had a fuse or a circuit breaker, but not both. So, if you have changed the fuse and it did not resolve the problem, it is certain that lightening did it's job. FWIW, this device is not ...
Any electronic modders here at Audiogon? Typically, I stick to either tube equipment and some of the integrated circuits for upgrades and mods. I also use the FR300 de-soldering gun. My only complaint is that there is as much cleaning involved as with using de-solder braid, except that...
Any electronic modders here at Audiogon? And, in spite of what modifications can be made, so many times it ends up being the total synergy of the system that wins. Seemingly, some just shouldn't go together, yet, the outcome is unbeatable. Having said that, I rarely have been stopped a...
Richard Gray Power Conditioner/UPS Maintenance. Model RGPC 400 Pro Unless I am thinking of the wrong model, the 400s does not have either a battery pack or breaker. It is simply a large coil in parallel with the AC line. Perhaps the 400 Pro is a different animal. In either case, lightening is often the winner. |
