Streamers and their Fuses
Why buy a hi end streamer and *not* change the fuse for goodness sakes. The streamer designers at Aurender et al failed in that last bit of performance tweaking. Without a hifi fuse upgrade for your hi-end streamer the sound is just con-fused. ; )
How far and wide? NSMT speaker placement
My son’s system; Rear of speaker enclosure approx. 6ft out from front wall. Center of drivers approx. 5.3ft from side walls. Room is approx. 18ft wide x 32ft long. Speakers; Magico S3 Series1 Streamer / DAC/ Amp; Mac device running Qobuz or App...
Streamed music sounds awful in my system and I don't know why ....
Dr John, Try Qobuz, even on a laptop feeding a DAC via USB should be decent enough. You can chase improvements by throwing a lot of money at the problem, and you should see some minor benefits. A very good CD player is going to sound more musical...
After the thrill is gone
When the thrill is gone, and assuming your components and speakers are well integrated with the room, perhaps you may be listening to your hifi too much? Sometimes we need a break. Yes this is too strong a statement, but as the old saying goes; fa...
Which USB reclocker is as good as the Innuos Phoenix USB?
The Wyred4Sound Recovery is another value-priced option currently on sale, lowered from $199.00 to $149.00. Used with different DACs or directly from laptop into Expert Pro’s own DAC, I fancy it offers a slight/ subtle sound improvement with a tou...
Well...I am taking the plunge into digital..
Streaming can get me in the zone. It is a very convenient format. To these ears, a well set up analogue vinyl system is the reference in sound quality. Analogue vinyl just sounds more real, more natural, more present, and more resolving. Studio g...
Speakers: Anything really new under the sun?
Hi Jaybird. I had the MA Gold Ref60s in the past. They were excellent for the money. Their sound was clear and engaging. Fairly balanced. Compare the MA Gold R60 with a Magico S3 or an Evolution Acoustics Micro One, and it becomes clear the MA is...
Speaker positioning: why do audiophiles neglect this so much?
I would not be inclined to agree with that statement. Most audiophiles, including myself, are somewhat neurotic on speaker positioning. As stated by others, many of us cannot go ‘all out’ in treated rooms where the audio system is the only conside...
Usb or Optical
All things considered, USB should be better. It does depend on the interfaces though. Optical has the advantage of minimal electrical noise contamination, but is, in general, much higher in jitter. I have had very good results with an MIT optical ...
Looking for Blues with High Fidelity
Rory Gallagher - Blues Rock. An absolute legend. A lot of decent quality recordings, but regardless, he will git you rockin’ with blues rock. Some of his songs have an Irish flair. But then, Rory was an Irish lad. 24/96 hi-res album on Qobuz; ‘Ro...
An electrical engineer on how power cables can impact sound quality
I do not question whether power cords can improve audio system performance. As John Atkinson once said, ‘that way lies madness’.    My concern with this whole schtick is that power cords can only offer marginal difference, if at all. The absurd p...
Let me end the Premp/Amplifier sound debate ...
Eric, great post and worthy of discussion. By the way Todd, very nice setup. I’m sure you enjoy many listening sessions. By the way I had the Yamaha ZX-9 many years ago and gave it to my son. It’s a fine-sounding receiver. On Amir and ASR, I res...
Go Cat8!
@richtruss said; ‘I’ve tried fiberoptic converters in several implementations in my system and it’s always sounded thin, lacking real natural tone of instruments and voices. I think its the conversion of photons back to electrons at the receivi...
The problem with streaming
Vuch, I enjoy streamed music immensely, but it took awhile and some experimenting to get there. First, and most important; I have found that the best streaming service for quality is Qobuz. I’ve had Tidal and the latest Apple Music service. If y...
Is Rap a valid musical form?
Yes, of course Rap is a valid music form.
