Rafael,I agree that the RipNAS is too pricey. It's pretty cool though. I like your idea of using the Buffalo NAS in conjunction with an external ripper. You can get an external DVD/CD drive for cheap - check out Best Buy.

Do you need a DAC for internet radio only?
What I like about Internet radio is I can listen to the best jazz stations in the country, the best classical stations, and Celtic Sojourn. HD or not, the local market doesn't have enough to offer. And not just in "the country" - anywhere in the wo...
Do you need a DAC for internet radio only?
I have had no problems at all (knock on wood, knock on wood) with my SB Duet. You can see from the SB forum however, that there are a lot of documented occurrences and issues - especially with the older software versions. My Duet has been reliable...

Since EAC is free, try downloading it to your Dell to see if it is compatible. EAC is very good ripping software, although it is slow. It will provide you with bit-perfect rips (I highly recommend ripping in flac - especially if you go with the Du...
Do you need a DAC for internet radio only?
If you get the Duet, you should try ripping some CDs or downloading some lossless files. You will be very surprised at how good these music files will sound compared to your CDs played via your CD player. Then, think how good the same files will s...
Do you need a DAC for internet radio only?
Not really. The Duet has its own internal DAC (actually a pretty good one at that - Wolfson) so you can just use it to "stream" internet radio via your preamp. A good external DAC will definitely improve the quality of playback if you're feeding t...
Squeeze box classic 3 vs. Slim Device Transporter.
SB2, 3 and duet will only support up to 48/24. The newer software utilizes SOX, which will down convert higher sample rates. The only SB device that allows native sample rates higher than 48/24 is the Transporter. Go here for more information.Beli...

The best option would be to use a NAS, especially if you go with the PWD and plan to use the Bridge when it becomes available later this year. Check out the Buffalo Linkstation products here These are DLNA certified - which you will need if you go...

I2S mods on Squeezebox
To know what you can do with the Duet, all you need is the schematic.Actually Kal, all YOU need is a schematic. For ME, it would be completely useless! I am not that "techy." I do know what I want to achieve though, and I know the reason why I2S ...

I2S mods on Squeezebox
Thanks you guys.Ya Clorody, I am progressing. One thing has led to another. First I looked into simply modding the receiver, and then I read up on re-clocking, which lead to I2S details. PS Audio's new PWD altogether eliminates the need to use S/P...
