Long distance from amp to speakers I also have this situation with a system of mine. I went with signal cable, and have been very happy. I recently got a chance to audition several Nordost cables - I had to move the speakers closer, and they were 1/2 the length of the Signal cables...
What is bias a tube amp ? Is it difficult? Find out ahead of time how to bias the particular amp you're looking at buying - they are all different. Some auto bias, so it's a total non issue for the owner.I have a Rogue Zeus, which has a LOT of tubes. Rogue puts a meter right on top, built i...

Best earplugs? I'm a motorcyclist since forever, as well as a professional woodworker. I do ear protection. My 2 cents:I have never found disposable plugs that either 1) are comfortable or 2) stay fully inserted, so I have custom ones made by an audiologist. If ...
Anyone heard new Moon I-7 Integrated Amp? I know this is an old thread, and probably no one cares, but......I've had the Moon Supernova CDP for 6 months now - huge blood red display (but very accessable dimming control) which I didn't like - at first. Now, I understand - it is supremely r...
Can tube preamps be as 'detailed' sounding as ss? "07-13-06: PlatoThe simple answer is "no."While I agree with Zaikesman that there may be some tube preamps with better detail than the one you tried, you have hit upon the classic tradeoff between tubes and solid state."I agree. I'm lucky enough t...

Ayre C 5xe Universal vs. Cary 306 SACD Khrys: "The C-5xe is the finest Redbook player yet made."Are you kidding?Over at AA, I got into a bit of a tussle when I observed, based on a A-B test, that I didn't care for the CD playback of the C5xe compared to my Moon Supernova. Too smooth, n...
Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil? Ummm, wood resonates, right? Isn't that why they use the stuff for oboes, violins, guitars, mandolins, drum shells, etc? If your equipment is resonating that badly, wouldn't a purpose built dampening material be much more effective?
Sim Audio Moon Evolution Series, - I-7 The speakers used in my audition were Gallo reference 3s. the I7 had way more power than the first Roque I auditioned - unless tube watts really are more powerful than SS watts. I thought a watt was a watt. Anyway, I really WANTED to like the I7, ...
Sim Audio Moon Evolution Series, - I-7 I have the supernova CDP, and I've yet to try anything side by side that betters it. I'm going to try again this weekend, w/ayre and accuphase going against it. I need a second CDP, and if I don't find better, I'll buy a second unit. So, last week...
