Please help. Why would higher power amp require gain? Marantz/Adcom
My knowledge on this is by no way exhaustive, but it’s a little concerning to me that Audyssey is having to run the left and right so hot to compensate for the input sensitivity of the 555.it might be better to have the 555 on the rear channels wh...
Finally found a space for the speakers I’ve been storing... and I don’t love them any more
The Paradigm in question was their second kick at the can, trying to make a better quality, higher end speaker.  That Studio line went up to a version 6 before they retired the line, and got a lot better than the V 2.I’m not surprised that someone...
Please help. Why would higher power amp require gain? Marantz/Adcom
I found an old review of the 555 II.  It needed 1.75 volts at the inputs to achieve full power.Another old review of the 7500 says it needed 1.14 volts to hit 150 wpc, so that should be fine for the Marantz.http://www.users.interport.net/a/d/adcom...

One other thing.  Any amplifier requires a certain voltage to achieve unity power.  The 555 can do 200 wpc, but it requires around 1.7 volts on its input rca jacks to do this.  At least the current 555SE needs 1.7 volts, perhaps the old 555 needs ...
Adcom circa 1990 amp and preamp
Adcom was very successful for a reason, full stop.  They still make amps, btw, and are still very capable products.   I have the GFA 565 SE being driven by a very transparent tube preamp, and the combination is jaw dropping at times.
Hoping for a recommendation for stereo amp around $1500 or less ($2k max)
I'd be cautious about that VTV amp.  They claim 425 watts at 4 ohms and 1% THD, but the 20 to 20 kHz power rating at 4 ohms is only 100 watts.

Ascend Acoustics, that's a name that tends to fly under the radar.  I had the Sierra 2 and Ascend tends to have a very neutral house sound, and the ribbon tweeters they use are excellent with superior vertical dispersion.  I had them with the Halo...
Full circle and thinking about speakers
Specifically looking at Totem Hawks and a few others.Called an Audio place who happens to be a Rogue and Totem dealer. He invited me up to listen to a used pair of Totem Hawks thru the same Rogue amp.I’d like to keep it simple and without multiple...
Adcom
The current Adcom amps are good, not great.  At least the 555MS, 555SE and 565SE.  I haven't heard the 575SE or the 585SE.  The design is tried and true, and they have better parts as you move up the line.  I would think that the Parasound Classic...
Emotiva XPA-1 VS. McCormack DNA-750’s...
Unfortunately, I had some of the same experience with the XPA series amps, though I had the XPA-3.  Boomy inaccurate bass, and a brightness that was an issue.  The Parasound Halo A21 was in a completely different class.  I think those XPA amps hav...
Why does my Adcom GFA-2535 blow fuses?
Good lord, jays has 5 posts to his name in 15 years.  I don't think he's around, you'll have to either get it serviced, shelf it or trash it.
Schiit amps, freya preamp
The Frey+ only has 3 sets of outputs(Ha!  Lots of pre's only have 1 set), and one of them is XLR.  So one of your devices has to have XLR inputs, or its no go as you thought. You don't need to use the Freya+ for your headphone amp if you have a sep...
Speakers for Adcom GFA 575se $2k-$3k
Those Sonus Faber Sonnetto 8 look pretty impressive.  Made in Italy.  Up to 300 watts handling, 4 ohms rated, 36 - 25,000 Hz, and a retail of $6500.  When you've had some time with them, please update us on how they sound with the Adcom!
Schiit - shipments stopped?
There you go, pip!  Doing something about an unsatisfactory experience.  Nothing wrong with that, and so much better than the "hurry up and wait" mode that get some to complain endlessly as if that will cause the needed parts to be manufactured an...
Best 9 channels power amp?
There is no "best" when it comes to a 9 channel amp. Just too many channels and power demand to do it right. The Monolith is made by ATI Amplifiers in the US, and would be the best option for pure power. Emotiva does make a decent amp too. If I wa...
