Installing dedicated lines. Which cable to use?
So, is it recommended to use solid 10 ga. wire, or will stranded suffice? What would the difference be?
Tube Substitution Okay?
Absolutely yes....any 6SN7W, 6SN7WGT, 6SN7GT, VT-231, CV-1988, as well as 6SN7GTA and 6SN7GTB will work fine. I'm sure I missed some...
Best Amps match for Egglestonworks Andra 2 ?
Yup, 711 is right. I borrowed his Dodd amps, and they truly controlled my Andra IIs better than any of the SS monsters I owned. Not only that, but they added the naturalness, decay, and harmonics that only tube amps can deliver. Highly recommended...
Power cord for tubed cdp
I've had great results with a Ridge Street Audio Poiema III on the tubes' power supply for my Modwright 9000ES cdp. I also have one on my Modwright tubed preamp. I feel that the PIII will meet your requirements.
Modwright Platinum Truth Sony 999ES
Let me add one more thing that I forgot about...Power cords have made a positive difference for me in the Modwrights as well. I like a VD Nite II or a Xindak Gold on the 9000ES itself, and the Poiema III fits the bill on the power supply. I hear t...
Modwright Platinum Truth Sony 999ES
Thanks Alvin, glad you are enjoying your Modwright 999ES.Maril,I don't have experience with Modwright's 3910, but I have owned he 999ES and now have the 9000ES. Assuming that the power supply and tube stage is the same, then I would think that the...
Modwright Platinum Truth Sony 999ES
Not many, if you have the "right" tubes and the "right" umbilical. Hint...the T-Sols and the Silver umbilical are not the "right" stuff. Of course, imho, and a few others!
Experiences with ModWright Sony 999ES
I can't stress enough about the importance of having the "right" tubes in these Modwright players, as well as the "right" power cords, and the "right" umbilical.I found that I did not like the T-S tubes, and have replaced them with the GE 7044s. I...
Replacement Fuse's - What are my options ????
If anything, they may blow a little sooner. Just the other day, I had a Hi-Fi Tuning fuse blow on my preamp due to a "power on" surge. Am I worried about these not protecting my equipment...No, not at all.
do copper, silver & gold cables sound different ?
On a whim, I made myself a 4' RCA/RCA IC using 99.999% pure gold wire, (2) 30ga. wires twisted together per hot and return leg, with Eichmann bullet connectors. An expensive experiment to say the least, but it sounds so good that it is still resid...

EL-34: JJ Tesla or Electro-Harmonix?
Hey Trelja, I agree, it just goes to show you that the ancillary equipment using particular tubes also has a definite affect on the sonics of the tubes. I was expecting the same results as you with the KT-77s after all the raves, and I'm probably ...
EL-34: JJ Tesla or Electro-Harmonix?
After a week of listening to JJ E34Ls, JJ KT-77s, and SED "winged C" EL34s on Dodd amps, I can conclusively say that I preferred the SEDs over the rest. Both JJs were closer sounding to each other than different. The SEDs gave me an airier, bigger...
Wanted:Warm, Sweet preamp.
Surprised no one mentioned the deHavilland UltraVerve. With one 6SN7 tube, you can custom tailor the sound to your liking / preferences.
