VPI Classic vs. Well Tempered Amadeus

Both of these turntables are priced very simular. Who out there has compared the two turntables? Which one did you like and why?

Thanks.

Is any other WTA owners out there having the knot noise that Vortex mentions? Is there any option to relocate the power switch or have an external one since the rear switch would not work well with my wall shelf recessed into but not touching my audio cabinet.
I have no issues with the knot.

Not sure what you means about the power switch. Mine is on the top near the front.

Shakey
Have a Simplex, no knot noise here.

The Simplex does have the power toggle on the back, mounted with the rest of the electronics, but I believe the rest of the models have it upfront. I'm sure you could rewire an external toggle somewhere else, but perhaps you can look into whether the external DPS might have an on/off switch instead.
I guess I just have noisy knots. I've had 3 Amadeus, a multitude of knots, and they all make noise. it's not something you hear with music playing.

get a DPS and use that to control the power. it has a switch.
There is an anecdote around somewhere how Firebaugh put together a deck at a trade show with parts from everyday life. The golf ball may have been a part of that build. While this may seem over the top kooky, in the end it is the essence of function which is at the heart of the Well Tempered Turntable and Arm.

Once set up properly the feel of the arms resistance to the thick fluid and no bearing is at first very unusual. Using the CBS Seven Steps LP tonearm resonance test can be very interesting with any tone arm with one exception, the WT.

I'm not sure I get the new Well Tempered decks. The older versions seemed to have better adjustability and an isolated motor.

As to the VPI for a couple of hundred dollar more I'd rather have the three speed Clearaudio Performance with magnetic bearings.
