I have to chime in here....LEE Morgan's 1964 Search for the New Land is a phenomenal album. If you would've asked me about 2 weeks ago I may have said Hubert Laws' Let there be Light.
But search for the New Land is a GREAT example of top flight musicianship, fabulous performances, I don't even have a good copy (by our standards) but it seems every time I play this album I'm transported to another place
If you can find it in the States probably not .
Its no longer produced as far as i know so , another favorite of mine is the "kind of hippie group " Flairck .
Its a former dutch group which played natural instruments and a sort of experimental music its "produced" by polydor(good albums) and can be found for a euro in second hand stores .
The albums called: Live in amsterdam.
The sound quality is as good as it gets and it is very dynamic music with enourmous transients with which the krells have no problems at all
Tori Amos: Abnormally attracted to sin. Great sound and vocals. Her first album since Little Earthquakes that has her back to her roots with some great tunes.
for me the pickens have been thin this summer. bought a fair amount of dissapointments like rufus wainright, not his father. but Drive By Truckers didn't dissapoint. "THE BIG TO-DO" a real good spin. I will say the packaging and pressings have not dissapointed at all. They seem to be getting consistently better all the time.
Koegz sure got it right with "The Suburbs". Best of the year so far. I don't hear the gross compression that some have criticised. More like a slight softness from the vintage tube multitracking. Rich, dense, detailed mix with warm bottom end. Debts paid to Joy Division/New Order, Sonic Youth, Radiohead, Kinks, Pretenders.
