Small room electrostat/ planar speaker?

In about 30 days will be moving to a new home where its going to be hard to make my 1.7 maggies work in a spouse friendly way ( the only large room is the main living room). I've always gravitated to planars and electrostatics, box speakers that don't sound colored or slow usually cost more than my entire system. Where I'd like to end up is a system that's extremely resolving at low to moderate volume levels, my main dissatisfaction with my current Mg 1.7 speakers and Prima Luna amp is that it really doesn't come to life until the volume is moderate listening levels or higher.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen something that approaches the coherency and speed of the 1.7s that would work in an 11x12 listening room? I'd like to keep the cost limited to $4k if possible.

Still musing on this, Maggies are hard to shake. Tried a pair of LS-50's on a lark, nice little speakers but no real low bass and ported cabinet design made frequency response quirky. Possible candidates at this time include Spatial Audio M3 and Zu Soul Supreme. Finding that to improve I would need a lot more class A wattage than the class A/B Hafler provides whereas with a more efficient speaker a better amp would be easier/cheaper to solve.

What about the Mini Maggies? I was an early owner of them and Sound Anchors worked with me to create stands that had two "rods" - one for desktop and one for regular use.

I have had dozens and dozens of speakers.  I’ve had Magnepan LRS’s for a few months now and I want some 1.7i’s really bad.  I absolutely love the Maggie sound and am not sure that I will go back to conventional box designs except for secondary setups.  My Maggies displaced some $5,000, transmission line towers with Seas Excel Drivers.  The maggies aren't as refined and don’t play loud but when comparing them, everyone who heard the 2 speakers preferred the maggies over the $5k floorstanders.

Nearly 5 year old thread.

Hopefully the OP wasn't holding his breath for the recent suggestions!
