Quad Z-2 Opinions

Does anyone here have experience with the Quad Z-2 (2-way stand mount)? I accept that the ribbon tweeter will produce excellent treble response. I will be using a sub, so bass extension is not an issue. I mostly want opinions about the midrange. Is it fast and detailed? The mid/bass driver is fairly large at 175 mm=6.89 inches, so I'm wondering if the midrange ends up losing out to treble and bass.

I'm trying to decided between this model and the Wharfedale Evo 4.2. My current speakers are Wharfedale Opus 1 floor standers (3 way with a dome midrange). I like the basic sound, but the speakers are starting to show their age.

Thanks in advance for any help.

AudioTroy,

Thanks for the comparison with Opus--that helps.

I think your autocorrect might need adjusting. :)

Kenjit,
Unfortunately, flat panels won't work in this room.

Man, thats a tough choice.  I’ve personally looked at both.
The wharfedale evo 4.3 is just a tad more than the quads...

The Evo 4.3 is currently on sale (manufacture price reduction) by $100 in the US. My guess is that it’s not selling as well as the 4.4 or the 4.2. If I were in the market for a floorstander, I would definitely get the 4.4 over the 4.3 given the latter speaker's lack of bass extension.
