Zu Soul Superfly

I just ordered a pair of the new Zu speakers on a whim. I was going to wait for information, but the fact that they threw in the free superfly upgrades to the first 30 people got me.

From a similar thread it sounds like some of you guys have heard the speaker despite information only being released today. I'm wondering what you can share about it?

Also, I am really hoping it works with a Firstwatt F1 amplifier. Can anyone comment as to that? I know the Druid's and Essences worked OK.

Gopher......same problem for me now! Changed pre-amps, changed to a different version of the Frankenstein, and my magic has gone now also!

Thankfully, I have a Dodd Pre-amp mkii on the way and am going to start tweaking placement again..........until I read your details, I thought I was just imagining it all!
Secretchimp-99 That liveliness you describe is exactly how I feel about the Omen Defs that I have and that "the band is playing in the living room" is my favorite audiophile term:). I would love to have an A/B comparison of the two. How would you describe your soundstage? Mine is definitely very large and very deep. It is as if it is deep behind the speakers.....as if I were sitting like 20-30 rows back at a show.

I will have a 300B Set amp coming soon.....anyone in the Bay Area?
I had dramatic burn-in for weeks and weeks and I thought too for a few days that I had lost my mind! How many hours do you have on them? I would recommend 400 solid hours as a minimum. I would also comment that the positioning is critical for bass especially as well as amplifier matching. I do not know Naim at all other than knowing they have a great reputation, but it is SS correct? The Superflys are designed with tube amplification in mind, unless I am mistaken as sometimes happens.

The Superflys I auditioned where not picky with positioning, the sound stage was out in front, engaging, and for lack of a better term, Intimate. They were paired with a Quad tube amp using KT-66 tubes.
I'm pretty sure that is the export price (look on the left of the chart)....I am pretty sure that they have made a bit of an error.

And my guess on the Superfly Defs is that the Def mkiii was chosen instead. It will have the same drivers as the Superfly, and an even better upgraded Tweeter, same silver internal wiring. It would probably sound very similar, and yet the Def mkii had such a big following, that it probably makes more business sense to go that route....but that's just a guess:-)
Nice Troy. Congrats man. Please get back with us with what you think as it is nice to hear what works and doesn't work with the Superfly's. What sources are you going to use?
Hi Roscoeii,
Everything that you change will make a difference, which is a blessing and a curse with these speakers, as they just keep getting better and better over time!
And yes, they will likely keep breaking in for a while......what is the rest of your system?
I Agree.....that is a nice honest gesture to clear the air and explain some of the crazy pricing strategies over the last 6 months. I'm glad I got mine when I did, but I know this company will be just fine.....they are honest, committed to excellence, hard working, devoted, and not just feeding the world a different lie everyday as some in this business have done ALa Shady Shifter. It's called growing pains, and the thing a successful company does when problems arise is fire the trouble makers ASAP and move on. I'm loving my Zu's and will likely buy more in the future. Sean and Adam are always a pleasure to talk to.
I would love to hesr your impressions......I love the Tranquility and Zu synergy. It is amazing.
What I was trying to say is that they have amazing synergy, Superflys or Omen Defs with the Tranquility. Liquid smooth, huge soundstage, great detail, with no digital edge or brightness at all........but I have not compared it to any of the big dawg DAC's.
Yep, I think the only difference would be the silver cabling inside and the driver. There is not that much of a difference between the two drivers. Let us know your impressions.
Hi Gopher,
I 100% agree. Before I made the last change, my system was sounding spectacular. However, as I know you know, I would disagree with anyone who says that speaker placement is easy with these Zu's!
Fantastic news Gopher ! I've got a write up on it coming out soon........wish I still had the demo to hear with my New Zu Def mk iii's!
