Zu Soul Superfly

I just ordered a pair of the new Zu speakers on a whim. I was going to wait for information, but the fact that they threw in the free superfly upgrades to the first 30 people got me.

From a similar thread it sounds like some of you guys have heard the speaker despite information only being released today. I'm wondering what you can share about it?

Also, I am really hoping it works with a Firstwatt F1 amplifier. Can anyone comment as to that? I know the Druid's and Essences worked OK.

Just thought I'd chime in with some additional amp options in the $500-800 range that over the years I've had some experience with. Conrad-johnson MV 50 or 52(the 52 has polypropylene caps in the power supply) which is EL34 based would be excellent(45 watts/ch)as would an Audio Research classic 30(30 watts/ch). As both are older amps they likely have 16 ohm output taps which would be ideal with the 16 ohm impedance of the Zu soul.
Gopher, I've been an Atma-Sphere S30 owner for many years and just recently had them upgraded to 3.1 status.
Regarding how hot they run, it's my understanding that they run slightly hotter, around 5-10%, than class A solid state amps of equivalent wattage. With the S30's 30 watts/ch it is a nonissue.
I am currently using the S30 with coincident total victory's with great results. I've never heard the superfly's but on paper it's a match made in heaven. With the superfly's 16 ohm impedance the S30 would be coasting putting out appox. 40 watts/ch.
Enjoy the st70 for now and when funds/availability allows you can upgrade.
I got mine about 2 weeks ago. Driving it with an Atmasphere S30. Pretty amazing combo after about 30 hours of break in. Great definition and transparency. Even though my current digs don't allow for optimal placement, soundstaging and imaging are outstanding. Leading edge transient information is outstanding. Brass has that bite that you hear when live. Drums and cymbals have that snap and sparkle. Bass definatly goes down to at least the mid 30's in my room with great definition and speed of the leading edge of the bass notes making it very easy to follow bass lines. Music has great pace and drive that draws you into the music and lets you forget about all the hifi stuff. Even my non- audiophile wife said wow.
I don't know everything that's out there but I'm hard pressed to think of a better speaker for $2800.

BTW, my pair is in Ferrari red, purchased at a discount on Zu's Black Friday sale. They are gorgeous. If you can spring for it I highly rec. the high gloss finish of your choice.

Well, I've had mine for approx. 6 weeks. Plenty of bass. No issues like you mention. Wonder if something happened to the Grewe loading?
Would definately call Zu to discuss.
Sorry couldn't be more help
Bboring,
I 've had the Superfly and now the Superfly Supreme. I think your Rouge integrated amp will be fine using the 8 ohm tap. At 100 watts/ch the amp will be coasting. After you have had the Superfly and you think this is the combo for the longterm you can talk to Rouge about a 16 ohm tap if possible or just leave things alone and just enjoy.

They do make an 8 ohm 10" single driver for the Omen but I don't think it's the same quality of sound as the one in the Superfly. That's a question for Sean. In the Omen Definition and Definition the 2 10" drivers are wired together to produce 8 ohms. They can also be wired for 32 ohms on request, which someone with an OTL amp might want.

Hope this helps.
The Supreme is a significant upgrade the Superfly. As Snopro says the Radian 850 is a big upgrade from the older tweeter. More open, sweeter and transparent without any hardness. I do think it's more than just the tweeter. It takes everything that was great about the Superfly to a higher level. The better things are upstream,(amp, preamp, source) the more your going to hear what the Supreme can do.

What's nice about the Superfly and the Supreme is that both can be paired with super components without apology but they also sound really good with more modest components.. I'm using an Atmasphere S30 OTL which IMHO is a match
made in heaven. There is nothing except the speaker wire between the tubes and the 10" driver and only a high quality capacitor and resistor to the tweeter. But I have also heard the Superfly with a Stereo 70, CJ MV52, and Audio Research Classic 30 with excellent results.

If your finanical resources allow would go for the Supreme but the Superfly is also a terrific speaker.
