Waiting as well. I bought the 4.5's, they are breaking in as I write this note; my wife loves them so far she would like just a tad more bass, but hey, it is a 4.5 speaker can't expect much more...oh, its paired with a new Jolida FX10, 10 watts, no problem, sounding rich, deep soundstage, witdth getting better by the day. Nice pairing. She likes these so much, she said, "get the Lore if you'd like." |
I want to thank everyone who has participated in this chat since it turned me on to a high efficiency speaker with a benign impedance that sounds really good. I'm not, and have never been in to horn speakers; my wife and I come down on the slighty warm/neutral side of this audio world. As I listen to the small Tekton 4.5s, which prompted me to purchase the Jolida FX 10 for a desktop system in a small room (office), my ears are blown away by this small combo...and it hasn't broken I yet. Today I hooked up my Cary 280 V12 with 50 watts of single ended triode and Wow! Wow! The little Tektons really came alive. Huge soundstage, I mean extremely wide and deep. Very present and live, voices, male and female large and live, timbre just beautiful, real piano, even the bass got deeper and a tuneful type, not one note. I'm really hazard now, wife too. Can't wait to order the Lore...thanks all!, |
Zman, wish I wasn't sleeping at the wheel when your Lore came up for sale. Since we're talking Tekton, can someone here help me out. I'm playing the 4.5 in desktop system with a Jolida FX10. I don't like the Electro Harmonix EL84s or their 12AX7s much. So, does anyone have recommendations? I called The Tube Store and was going to purchase the Genelex 84s and 12AX7s, but got talked into a 7189 Northern Electric Tube and wondering if I made a mistake? Well, I'll start finding out in a couple of days. Again anybody have experience with this tube or have other suggestions? I like slightly warm sound that is full. My Cary 280 has it, what can I do to help the little FX10? |
Thanks to gpowered, zmanastronomy, sebrof, and this particular chat I first bought a pair of Tekton 4.5s, was impressed by them so I went and bought a used pair of the Tekton Lore. They are everything gpowered and Zmanastronomy, sebrof, said they were and more...Cwazz, you are way off base and have a ax to grind that is irrelevant to the information given here on this speaker, that info helped me find a really good speaker that works great with low-powered SET, and in my room the bass does get down to 30hrz. I'm a pro bass player, it is correct and tuneful. |
Cwazz, not attacking your opinion of the speaker I am questioning your attack on Gpowered; and, if you don't want an attack on your opinion don't attack my statement on the quality of bass in my room. You don't live here so you couldn't possibly know. I spent a lot of time with the placement of these speakers, my systems are top quality, so bloviate all you want, but you are a wrong-headed fellow. |
Posted about M-Lore last night, don't know why it didn't show up, but the M-Lore got the Major Mojo Award. |
I like my Lores best with my Cary 280 V12, 50 watts of push-pull triode. No glare or sssssibilance at all. For me everything is just right. My Cary 300SEI is also great and the Primaluna Dialogue1 just a tad and a half behind the former two. Even with my Jolida FX10 EL84s there was no sibilance or glare. My office room is 14x16, main room about 16x26. Once broken in these Lores are one of the best bargains in audio. Mega kudos to Eric Alexander. |
I've had good luck with Silnote Reference IIs, Alpha Core Silver Saphine and home-brew Cardas as recommended by Jeff Day. For speaker, been using PS Audio Statement, Kimber 8TC (older blue black variety) or Alpha Core Silver AG-1 Centerstage, and a home brew again via Jeff Day called White Lighting (sounds close to top line Cardas). |

Gpowered, the best recommendation I have ever received in high-end audio. I know we have been talking mostly Lore and Pendragon, but the 4.5 monitors are just as outstanding as above in their category. There isn't a better desktop, small room monitor near its price ($329.00), and in MHO you'd have to spend many times that price to get all it's positive attributes. Long break-in, but well worth the wait. I'm extremely surprised by the quality of its bass given the speakers small size and overall just a great small speaker. Thanks Eric, thanks Gpowered for letting us know about these speakers. |
I appreciate all that Goraman has written here, but Genjamon also makes valid points. When I make a tube change in the Primaluna Dialogue1, say from the stock Primaluna tubes (EL 34 and driver tubes) to Amperex 12AU7 Bugle Boys and 5751 Sylvania Gold Grey Plate 3m along with NOS 6n3ce Output tubes there is an enormous change for the better in every parameter. It is significant and undeniable. Does it change the inherent characteristics of the Lore or 4.5s? No! But the sound from them is much, much better, the tube changes helped the amp to sound better and consequently bring out the best inherent qualities in the Lore and 4.5s in my room to "my ears." |
Hi Goraman, great example and you described me in my early years, gave me a hearty chuckle. Good thing I learn fast. Best! |
The Belles A150 is a terrific solid state amp and I generally do not like SS all that much. I cringe at the thought of the Crown, generally a piece that drove me up the wall with horrible sound in the 70s. |
Do yourself a favor and buy the M-Lores for only $649.00. Save some money. See the Stereomojo and Enjoy thecMusic reviews. |
Eric formally worked with Ray Kimber of Kimber cables, call, and seek his advice. I'm a long time user of Kimber 8TC, can't go wrong with them in most situations. Of course, I also use and have used many other brands. |
Right on, Sebrof! Politics should have no place here. |
