I'm quite happy w/ my stock Lore's, but I'm curious how much that zoble set you back, Chad, just in case I get the bug to try a tweak or two. |
Oops, I addressed Chad when it should have been Bc63.
At least I think I did - with the time lag of moderation on this site I lose all track of continuity. |
Sorry I've read a good bit of this thread but not all.
I get that the Lore's do loud and live really well and give up detail for "presence" but how are they for quiet and intimate - like late at night when the rest of the house is asleep? |
I'm in northern NJ. Anyone in the tri-state area who has a variant of the Lore's or Meow's willing to offer a listening? |
Anyone bought Lore's and wished they bought M-Lore's, or vice versa?
Sounds like my 13x17' room is on the cusp and could go either way. Eric actually recommends the M-Lore's as a more appropriate form factor (so as not to visually overwhelm the room).
I, however, am loath to give up the extra bass extension, and if I don't like them in this room I think the larger Lore's would be the better fit in my larger upstairs listening room (however I'm already satisfied w/ Vandersteen 2ce's there).
So I bounce back in forth in my mind. Wondering if others in the same boat feel they've chosen rightly or wrongly. |
Still no one w/ M-Lore's?
I know Eric is busy building them, the two reviews out there have driven orders, but so few user comments... |
FWIW, I have ordered Lore's (patiently awaiting their arrival), but still I wonder if the smaller driver of the M-Lore doesn't produce a purer, more articulate mid-range? |
If I remember correctly, grills for Lore's are $70 + $20 for shipping (they are packed separate from the speaker to prevent damage).
Sure it hurts to pay extra for them (I did), but if one doesn't want them it's nice to know they're saving that money. Works both ways. |
Wondering if anyone could speak to how they're trying to affect the Lore sound w/ DACs, cables, etc. What do you find that you're trying to increase/decrease in terms of highs, lows, detail, etc.
I'll be starting with low-fi SS power, which I'll look to replace w/ a budget tube amp in the not too distant future, but first will come a DAC. The two emergent candidates are the Grant Fidelity TubeDac-11 and the Schiit Bifrost. (Both ~$350) I'd love to know if anyone has thoughts on which might have better synergy w/ the Lores? My hunch is the Bifrost may be the more clinical/resolving of the two but I'm not sure of that. |
I really appreciate the advice, Goraman.
I may hit you up for more info on your tweaks down the road, but I wont bother you on that yet, cuz I'm not at all electrically inclined, so when I do I'll need it all spelled out in excruciating detail.
I should probably make sure I even like the speakers first ;-)
Cheers. |
Goramon, I'm thinking of buying a Schiit Bifrost but that Jolida is on my radar as well. How's it w/ supplied tubes and how much would one have to pay for "proper" tubes, and what might they be? (I'm New to tubes.) |
Genjamon, a month or so back you were talking about trying different amps with your Lores in an attempt to close the gap in sound between them and the Lore-S. I'm wondering if that happened and how it went? |
Goramon, nice thrashing of a strawman.
Who's harping on cables? I may have included them a couple of weeks ago as an "etc" when questioning what sort of upgrades/tweaks people may have found useful. That's it. And you've been in crusade mode since.
And you're the guy touting his upgraded binding posts, upgraded internal wiring, tweeter deffractors, speaker spikes, and the new Jolida DAC you rolled 1 week after recommending your Little Dot. Plus all the times you've mentioned how revealing Lores are of EVERY upgrade and tweak you've made.
I value your opinion and experience but, jeeze, lighten up. |
Goraman, I don't even have the speakers yet, I never said there was a problem. I simply asked if others were finding characteristics they were trying to enhance or tone down.
It was primary related to DACs, as I was debating whether to go with a high clarity/resolving DAC like the Bifrost, or a perhaps something smoother sounding like a TubeDac-11. I went with the Bifrost.
And, FWIW, I really don't care about cables as dear ones are out of my budget at the moment anyway. I was merely fishing for people to describe their own perceived strengths and weaknesses of the Lores.
Truth be told, I'm just overanxious for them to arrive... |
I'm quite interested in trying the new Red Wine Audio Signature 15 - it might be the best of both worlds and would save me from focusing next on cleaning up power to amp/preamp, allowing me to focus on cleaning up the power on my source. I've heard good things about that amp, including from Eric himself. |
No sweat Goraman, I get where you're coming from, wholeheartedly. |
My Lore's arrived 2 days ago. Very pleased.
I'm driving them effortlessly with an entry level Yamaha 2 channel receiver and a Shiit Bifrost DAC with FLACs.
Very textural. Hellova midfi system on the cheap.
While I haven't side-by-sided them, I think I prefer the Lores to my Vandy 2Ce's (already a bargain at twice the price,) and the fact that you can drive them w/ pretty much anything is such a bonus. |
Gpowered, if you go for that Crown lemme know what you think. I'm thinking to get on for my Vandy 2Ce's. It's cheap and so available, returns are easy if need be. |
Nico, Yes.
Bc63, no prob, and that Jack sounds like a great idea. |
